Lenovo Thinkbook 13s Gen 2 Intel - Trackpad Issue

I recently bought a Thinkbook 13 Gen 2 Intel. Everything works fine except the touchpad. It is unreliable and unresponsive. At times, it would freeze and become delayed for 20 seconds or so. This happens a bunch of times while I am using the trackpad. How long it lasts is also questionable, roughly around 10-30 seconds. I have also noticed that the left side edge of the touchpad is unresponsive/doesn't work as well compared to the right side. The sides overall don't register my finger. 

 

I have tried changing the sensitivity from low to most sensitive, and it solves the issue but that's not always the case and it returns within 5-10 mins. 

 

I have also tried uninstalling the touchpad driver from the device manager (completely disables the touchpad) and redownloading it from the Lenovo help website. However, once it's been scanned, it says it's perfectly fine. However, the touchpad continues to be disabled. I had to restart my laptop and the touchpad magically works again, yet the unresponsive issue returns. 

 

I am starting to think this is a hardware issue, or maybe it's my finger, but I have tried to get my family members to work the touchpad and they too face the same issue. Does anyone have a solution to my problem? 

 

Also, during a video call, my touchpad had its issues again, and while I was about to fix the touchpad sensitivity, the screen began to flicker cyan/purple horizontal bars across my screen. This has only happened one time, but I am afraid it may happen again. I caught this on camera too.

Welcome to the Community Forums.

 

 

Here's some troubleshooting steps you can try to perform in an attempt to remedy the issue:

 

 

Step 1. Static Discharge
- Remove all cables attached to the laptop (ac adapter/power, hdmi, external mouse/keyboard, etc)
- Ensure device is switched OFF
- Hold down power button for 60 seconds
- Re-attach all cables
- Connect the AC Adapter, then let the device charge for about 2 minutes (if it does) then start up as usual.
- Try this a couple of times in case it doesn't solve the issue the first time (2-3)

 

Step 2. BIOS Load Default Settings.
- Press the power button to completely shut down the unit.
- Press the F1 or F2 (FN+F1 or F2) repeatedly on startup to enter BIOS.
- Navigate to the "Restart" tab
- Press "Load Default Settings"
- Save & Exit changes or F10.

 

Step 3. Check Device manager.
- Press Windows Key + X, select Device Manager
- In Device Manager, expand "Human Interface Device" & "Mouse and other pointing devices"
- Right click and click properties on anything that is "Touchpad" related.
- Check if it has a Power Management tab, and if yes, make sure these devices are allowed to "Wake" the device.
- Also Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn this device off to save power"
- Hit "Apply" and exit and then "OK".

 

Step 4. Test the Touchpad in Safe Mode. 

- Test the Touchpad in Safe Mode to see if it's more responsive. 

- If yes, then this is most likely a hardware issue.

Any changes or any updates/programs installed before the issue came up? 

Could you provide us the OS version and BIOS version?

 

And also, include a screenshot of the touchpad driver version details from the device manager?

I just got a ThinkBook 14 G2 ARE Laptop - Type 20VF and having very similar issues right out of the box. Did this fix it?

Have you tried all the steps provided above? If yes, the touchpad not working on safemode?

 

If not, can you provide the driver version of the touchpad?

I am having the exact same issue with two units of Thinkbook 13s Gen2, both were returned as DOA (Dead on arrival), now I received one of the replacement units (new) and once again the same issue.

Hello,

 

My comments below:

 

Step 1. Static Discharge
- Tried this without without results.

- Since this is the third computer with the same issue it was unlikely to work.

 

Step 2. BIOS Load Default Settings.
- Tried this without success.

- Even upgraded the BIOS to the latest version F9CN42WW released just a few days ago.

 

Step 3. Check Device manager.
- None of the items mentioned had power management tab, I believe this can mean that there is no touchpad driver installed.

- Lenovo Vantage and Lenovo System Update says that all my drivers are up to date.

 

Step 4. Test the Touchpad in Safe Mode. 

- The issue remains even in Safe Mode.

 

Attached you can find the full system info exported from Lenovo Diagnostic Tool and also a screenshot showing OS version.
