Start Up Error Message when using USB C Dock Type 2 and Thinkbook 14

2019-12-28, 22:46 PM

I just received my new ThinkBook 14 and USB C dock gen 2.

When I start up the Laptop via the dock I get the following message:

“00C082B0:The connected AC adapter has a lower wattage than the recommended AC adapter which was shipped with the system. To use AC Power, please connect the AC adapter which was shipped with the system.

Press F1 to continue or F2 to Enter Setup.”

I press F1 and the Laptop boots and everthing works fine. I have all the lastest BIOS, drivers etc.

Anyone know how to fix this. Tech support already sent me another dock which did not fix the issue. Next they said they would send me a new Laptop but my sense is this is a Bios issue with this new model.

Hi ,

Based on our accessibility checklist released this December 2019, The 2nd gen docking station has a compatibility issue when turning on the laptop via dock. You can check it here Sprinklr - Links

Thanks Jeremy. I opened the "compatibility matrix" file you linked.

Under "docks" there was this note for my Thinkbook 14 20RV "351.Make sure connect system USB-C connectorTM  with USB 3.1 Gen2/Power connector. Support power button clone."

I am not exactly sure what that means. I using the USB C cable that came with the dock and it is plugged into the USB 3.1** (Gen 2, USB-C + DisplayPort + Power Delivery).

Any further help from you is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

I have the same issue and the same conclusions.

Indeed I had waited for a IML to become available because the OCM promises full dock funcionality.

If the laptops own AC adapter is connected to the dock, it doesn't complain on startup.
However, battery doesn't charge, although AC presence is detected.

Support page lists BIOS as top download, but download page says it was removed.

Perhaps our specimens have the updated BIOS and are worse than some earlier ones?

My Dock is powered through a UPS battery back up that I tun off when I am not using the Laptop.

So for now I will 1st turn on the Laptop directly and once boot begins turn on the Dock. When I do this there is no boot error and the Dock connects properly to the Laptop.

As I don't use the Laptop all that often I can live with this for now.

Unfortunately when I call into tech support in Atlanta they want to send me another laptop and have no clue. When I asked for a senior tech that person is just as clueless and keeps apologizing for the issues I am having. I wish they could report our issue to a qualified support group.

Hopefully Lenovo will come up with a fix in 2020. It would be nice to power everything through the Dock without errors and extra steps.

Hi ,

Sorry for the late reply.

To isolate more, remove the UPS battery backup from the dock and make sure to use the 90W instead of the 60W charger instead.

Update us how it goes.

Jeremy

Makes no difference removing the battery back up and I am using the 90 watt charger that came with the dock.

The lastest BIOS update did not fix the problem.

The only way not to get the error on start up is to power both the dock and provide power to the laptop as well with the charger it came with.

Hopefully a future BIOS update will fix the problem.

Hi ,

I will forward the case for further investigation so they can make a fix for it.

Regards,

Jeremy
