Thinkbook 14-IIL BIOS and driver problems with Linux

2020-07-21, 15:53 PM

Hi,

I just want to report some problems under Linux, so I hope you can fix them and support Linux better.

My machine works (apart from the mousepad), so it is usable (with a USB wireless mouse).

*) BIOS ACPI errors/bugs

See image attached.

Messages like (this is just the first one):

ACPI BIOS Error (bug):

Failure creating named object [\_SB.PCI0.XHC.RHUB.SS04._UPC],

AE_ALREADY_EXISTS (20190816/dswload2-326)

I believe it is to do with the video ?

*) BIOS wifi driver startup

Also see image attached, I added those lines into that picture.

error message:

BIOS contains WGDS but no WRDS

The wifi works, but would be nice to clean things up.

*) touchpad not detected/working

The touchpad requires a driver that is very new and not in the Linux kernel yet.

I found this similar post (same hardware, I think):

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1853277/comments/12

So please just reach out to the Linux developers and help them get the touchpad driver working.

Otherwise, I do like the laptop, it's a great machine.

Thanks,

John.
