Thinkbook 14 IML Suspend function not Working on Ubuntu/Pop OS

2020-08-28, 4:32 AM

I just purchased a Thinkbook 14 IML and installed Ubuntu 20.04 and also tried Pop Os 20.04. In both the OS, the Suspend function is not working. When I close the lid or manually ask it to suspend, the screen goes blank for a few seconds and it wakes up immediately at the login screen.

I tried keeping the WIFI/Bluetooth off while suspending it, still it didn't work.

The Linux kernel version is: 5.7.1

Please advise on how to fix this issue.

That ThinkBook may be a modern standby machine w/out s3 sleep support.  I can't seem to dig up confirmation or denial just now :(

"dmesg | grep ACPI | grep supports" should tell the tale.  If s3 is listed that's not what is going on.  If it isn't, then that's probably the problem.  I only have access to the on-line BIOS simulator and don't see an s0i3/s3 option (called Windows 10 and Linux sleep state in my newer ThinkPads) but don't have a physical machine to check.

Sorry I can't be more specific, but maybe it gives you something to look into...

Hi @zoltanthegypsy , thank you for making time to reply to a total stranger.

I tried the command you mentioned and I get the following output:

ACPI: (supports s0 s3 s4 s5)

So as you said that might not be the problem as s3 is listed.

Any other idea?

Hi!,

I'm having the same issue with my ThinkBook. I also had an issue where the touch pad was not detected. I'm not too familiar about hardware and firmware stuff, but it's like Ubuntu hasn't recognized the machine as laptop.

Please do update if you find a solution.

Warm regards,

Austin Abraham

I also bought a Thinkbook 14 IML and installed Ubuntu 20.04. And I am unable to suspend my laptop. Please suggest a solution or workaround.

I bought this laptop after verifying support for Ubuntu 18.04

https://certification.ubuntu.com/hardware/201910-27453

I installed Ubuntu 20.04 since it was the latest OS. Never expected this incompatibility.

Lenovo must release a fix to this basic requirement. I have to shut down the laptop every single time. Finding it difficult to resume any work :(
