Thinkbook G15 ARE - 20VG0006UK

2021-04-02, 9:23 AM

Hi all,

I bought the above device and I am wondering if in general other people who bought it are underwhelmed? It looks nice but the battery doesn't seem to come in anywhere near the 7.5 hours and the screen is not bright and the whites not fantastic.

I haven't bought a laptop for a long time hence it appears better than what I previous had, but reading around it appears seriously under specced compared to competitors. There were not a lot of reviews out there on the product but I trusted it wouldn't be done so bad but maybe I am wrong.

Cheers, Warren

Hi Warrendc2!

Welcome to community forums

How long does the battery last? The life of the battery depends on how are you using your laptop. You can try running the update from the Lenovo Vantage app and install all available updates, especially the BIOS and Power Management driver.

Can you send us a picture of the screen? The screen is an IPS 250 nits Anti-glare and you can refer to this link: https://psref.lenovo.com/Detail/ThinkBook/ThinkBook_15_G2_ARE?M=20VG0006UK

Hi Jwes,

Thanks for replying.

I can get about 5 hours out of the battery which is half your competitors.

And the contrast is only 1: 700 which is also poor.

What are the strengths of a Thinkbook? It doesn't even include the thinkpad keyboard.

Thanks, Warren

Have you tried the steps provided above? How did it go?

The Thinkbooks are basically the cheaper version of the Thinkpads.

Yeah, I have tried those steps. And I know a thinkbook is a cheaper version of a thinkpad, but it is also a more expensive version of an ideapad and I am curious to what it offers over an ideapad - nothing really it seems at the moment.

And more important the touchpad now seems to have a problem. It sticks and stays in one place often.

Thanks.

Was there any improvement in the battery life after performing those steps? Could you send a screenshot of the battery status under the Lenovo Vantage app?

I also have a ThinkBook 15 G2 and also find the battery life to be very short - around 5 hours of non-heavy use, down to about 2 hours if playing a game.

I also sent one back because the battery would drop 2-3% every 24 hours of not being used (completely turned off and shutdown).

The replacement I have received is also doing the same thing.

Does yours do this?

I haven't noticed it dropping 2-3 % because i didn't think about it. I will take a look.

Yeah, the battery life is extremely poor. The only way to get perhaps 5 and a half to six hours is to drop the brightest down a little, and that shouldn't be necessary. It is at no point anywhere near the 7.5 suggested.

I don't think it will help to send it back as I think it is just the model. I went for a thinkbook because I had a good experience with a thinkpad before but it seems i was reckless. There are very few reviews outside on external sites, the ones on Lenovo's site are obviously cherry picked as it is impossible to add a review, and the model itself now seems to have disappeared from being sold.  I think they smartly leveraged the thinkpad brand to produce something substandard. There is nothing, apart from Window 10 pro, that sets it apart from a consumer laptop so it would have been better to get an acer aspire or similar.

At this point I wouldn't mind a refund but i am not sure I can get one. The main argument would be that it seems under no circumstances does it get anything near the estimated times.

I had a Lenovo Z50 before, which I had for around 7 years and it was a quality machine & was still working well when I sold it on.

Went with the ThinkBook because of my previous good experience with Lenovo and the Specs seemed good value.

But yeah, experience with it so far has been poor. I didn’t use it from Friday until today and the battery has dropped from 100% down to 92%
