A50 8149-11U upgrade problems

I'm trying to install 64 bit OS in our Lenovo A50 8149-11U computer, so that I can utilize 4GB RAM installed . Installation states that CPU is not capable of 64-bit? I am wondering why it would even hold 4GB, if you cannot upgrade to OS to use all of it. Do I need to get another processor for this machine?

Anyone have any ideas?

Re: A50 8149-11U upgrade problems

You would need to find a Prescott Pentium 4 CPU with 64 bit support.

Re: A50 8149-11U upgrade problems

Your A50 is a socket 478 based motherboard. EMT64 technology was not introduced into the Pentium line until the socket 775 variants came out in 2004. Your A50 is not capable of running 64bit, as no 64bit processor is available for it.
