Computer restarts, doesn't start, beep code.

2017-03-20, 22:00 PM

Hello, I've had this computer for just over a year and recently it's been randomly restarting itself and doesn't boot as a error beep code is sounded. Here is a recording of the beep code:

I haven't been able to source a list which contains this amount of beeps and it's almost time for A-Level coursework to be handed in.

Many thanks.

-Jordan

It would help to know exactly what computer you are referring too, since beep codes are not the same for every system, but my guess is it might be bad RAM.     I would try removing and resetting the RAM memory chips, and perhaps even use a pink pencil eraser to gently clean/polish the contacts on the RAM.    If the problem persists, try removing some of the RAM, and swapping it about, to eliminate a possible bad piece of RAM as the culprit.

While inside, you might remove, clean and reset the Video Adapter at the same time, and a good cleaning with some canned air/vacuum of the memory/video card slots might be in order.

Good Luck,

Thanks for the quick reply, I'll have a look at the RAM and Video Adapter!

I'm currently out at the moment and cannot get you the specs but I'm just after finding a post from a while ago, who had the same error. They also mentioned the RAM.

Thanks!

Pretty sure that code is the 'failed memory test' during POST.   Check the HMM for your system for confirmation.   I suggest a comprehensive memory test such as MemTest86, run 3 times (since it will pass POST once in a while.)
