Yes both uses the same Motherboard as P/Ns are same for both.

You can do that too it has an optional 2,5" secondary bay which can be used as a secondary storage.

I hope the above information helped you.

Please feel free to post in Lenovo Community Forums if you have any further queries!

The physical installation is the same whether it's a 2nd HDD or a SSD:

Don't forget to add the "second hard drive bracket" (cost $10) to your order.  This is the needed blue plastic bracket that gets inserted inside the second drive cage, and into which your self-added second drive will be inserted.  When you order this item it comes empty but pre-inserted inside the second drive cage.  You can then pull it out and insert your new drive into it.

You need this piece of plastic as a "mounting bracket adapter" which wraps around your drive, and then the whole assembly (drive plus blue plastic around it) gets re-inserted back into the second drive cage.  The plastic bracket "snaps into place" in the cage and your second drive is now securely fastened and installed.

Then it's just a matter of having a second SATA3 cable (like 18") to connect the drive to an open SATA3 socket on the motherboard.  The PSU in the machine has an extra SATA power connector pre-installed about halfway up one of the power cables, which is actually delivered folded up inside the chassis in case it's not needed.  You will pull out the cord to expose the spare power connector, and it will reach the power socket of your now installed new drive (now inserted into the second drive cage, inside of its blue plastic bracket) without a problem.
