Disable power button on M920q?

2019-10-30, 14:15 PM

Is it possible to disable the power button on an M920q (10RRS08G00)?

We have a group policy in place to disable it but it's not working. The OS is Win10 1803.

Computer Configuration--Administrative Templates--System--Power Managment--Button Settings

"Select the Power button action (plugged in)" - Enabled - Take no action

I don't see anything in BIOS dealing with power button behavior.

EDIT: I find that simply pressing the power button does nothing. Holding it down for several seconds shuts the PC down. Can this be disabled?

Disable power button on M920q?

First, holding down the power button is a fail-safe built into the hardware. It's there to give you another way of shutting down when your machine is completely locked up (besides unplugging the AC power) The group policy is supposed to set the power settings for "What happens when I press the power button". Try setting it manually to see if it works that way. If it does, then the filter on your group policy is preventing it from applying.
