Flash Drive and Hard Drive not recognized

My Thinkcentre A58 does not recognize a USB connected flash drive or a USB connected Western Digital Passport Hard Drive.I am using XP SP 3. My system has all current updates.

The Lenovo Tool Kit diagnostics say that the devices are working properly.

The Lenovo toolkit diagnostics  say that the USB ports are working properly

Printers and a mouse connected via USB are working properly.

Windows explorer does not see either device.

I would appreciate suggestions for a fix.

Re: Flash Drive and Hard Drive not recognized

Hi RWB7522,

So does it work when you plug in other USB device like mouse or keyboard?

Please check in Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management -> Disk Management to see your drives appear or not. And assign drive letter if exist.

Re: Flash Drive and Hard Drive not recognized

I have 2 printers, a key board and mouse attached via USB and they are operating.

The printers are connected via USB cables

The mouse and keyboard are wireless/

The computer --a desktop Think Centre A58 MT 7522-CTO--does not see a flash drive or a western Digital USB attached drive.

The USB flash drives and Western Digital drives work on other computers--including a MAC

When I go to CP--AT--CM--DM, the flashdrives are not recognized

They are shown as unknown devices

I have 2 flash drives

---a 16GB Sandisk Cruzer

---a 32GBY Attache'
