Flashing a downloaded BIOS

ThinkCentre M82 Series

Model Number: 2697CTO

The Lenovo Update tool hasn't worked for some time on her machine.

To flash the bios current, do I download the latest bios from the link below to her desktop (or USB?) and just double click the file or...?

Re: Flashing a downloaded BIOS

Download the ISO and burn it to a CD.  A rewritable CD should work fine.  Hit F12 multiple times as soon as you turn on the computer and it  should give you a boot menu.  Select your optical drive and let it boot.  It will ask if you want to change the serial number and the model number, say no to both.  The BIOS update will start and run automatically. It takes several minutes.  When it's done, it will re-boot and Windows should start right up.  This worked fine for me on my M92p.

Why a CD vs. USB flash drive?

Re: Flashing a downloaded BIOS

In one of the many posts on BIOS flash problems, someone suggested the CD was the most robust method and it was easy enough to do.  Try the USB method if you prefer.  It will probably work just as well.
