41N5620 - GH10L
Is there firmware available for this drive ... ?
I have a new Lenovo GH10L drive here .. . the user upgraded the firmware using a GH10N firmware update ... not sure what changes it made ... the drive still functions apparently without any lightscribe support.

The CD/DVD firmware update was downloaded along with other updates from the Lenovo / IBM website to update a Thinkcentre at a later time ... the user who later performed the updates was not aware the CD/DVD drive had been changed, swapped out for a newer CD/DVD drive ...
The firmware update only displayed two firmware revisions numbers ... apparently did not check for the model number .of the drive ... only a lower revision number was shown to the user who was asked to click OK to upgrade the drive to a newer bios revision level ...
It is my understanding firmware updates for CD/DVD drives usually check the model number ... also stored in the drives bios firmware.
The drive now shows it to be a GH10N rev. EV03 ... unsure of the previous firmware revision ... I believe the drive previously showed it to be a GH10L rev. EV02 ..
For many devices there is some method to revert back to the previous code either another patch and/or functions to save the previous bios in case a mistake is made or other problems occur.

you can try shuting down the PC unplug the drive boot all the way into win. then shut down again plug the drive back in then boot up again if you need roxio software its here http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-68582

I tried a reset of the drive to place it into safe mode ...
power off computer
hold eject button in
power on pc
keep holding eject button for 10 seconds
then release eject button while pc is performing bootstrapping .
This puts the drive into a "Safe Mode" ... essentially prepares the device for new firmware ...
The problem .... there seems to be no firmware available for this particular OEM drive
the GH10N (non-lightscribe drive) update found on Lenovo's web site updated or in this case downgraded GH10L drive to a GH10N ..
However, appropiate firmware update programming is suppose to first read the Device ID, in this case GH10N, "first" in order to determine if it is able to continue with the update, otherwise it should be reported the drive cannot be updated or that the drive cannot be recognized ... (seems there are no set standards for updating firmware for CD/DVD drives ... some types of hardware peripherals allow the user to save the old bios/firmware in case something goes wrong with the update. )
the original user performing the update was unaware the drive had been swapped out for a GH10L ... and executed the GH10N firmware update which succeeded in updating a newer drive and it's firmware.
