ThinkCentre E73 - Upgrade from i3-4130 to i5-4570S Processor Plan

Hi,

I'm a novice when it comes to upgrading desktops, yet wish to improve my Lenovo Think Centre E73 with an Intel i3 4130 Processor.

The RAM has already been replaced by myself, being upgraded from 4GB to 16GB (the maximum).

I wish to look at replacing the Intel i3 4130 Processor with a superior option.

My question: Is it possible to simply replace the i3 4130 with the i5 4570s?

I've checked the compatibility with Lenovo and the i5 4570S is listed as ok, the LGA1150 socket matches.

Am I still required to download and update BIOS?

Arctic MX-4 has already been purchased

Will an improved cooling fan be required compared to the standard one thats there?

I look forward to hearing from anyone willing to improve my learning.

Kind regards

Re:Lenovo ThinkCentre E73 - Upgrading from Intel i3 4130 to Intel i5 4570S Processor Plan

Should be a simple replacement, as you wrote the i5-4570S was a factory option.

BIOS update is not required for this, as this i3 was released after this i5.  Most of the recent BIOS updates address security flaws in this generation of Intel processor, if that's of concern to you.

The i5 does produce more heat, 65w (same as the i7s used with this system -- a possible alternative to the i5) vs. 54w of this i3.  However, the difference is small enough that I doubt that they used different cooler parts.  Be sure to blow out all the dust on the fan and in the heatsink.   Use the 'X' method of Thermal Paste Application.  And do a final tighten of the heatsink bolts right after running a longer CPU stress test, and the paste is hot.
