M55 8807-97U can not install Windows 7

2011-12-09, 18:56 PM

I have 10 M55 8807-97U's, I am attempting to load two of them with Windows 7 but I am having issues.

When I boot with my Windows 7 DVD (which I have burned using the iso provided by MS for our volume lic) they both error around 12% of expanding the files.  The error message is "The wrong volume is in the drive.  Please insert volume GRMCENVOL_EN_DVD into Drive E"

I have wiped the drive clean on one and left XP Pro on the other, I receive the same message. I have flashed the bios to most current and upgraded the firmware on the CD\DVD drive.

Does anyone have any clue what I can do?

thanks for the reply but I've done that.  In fact I thought it was the bug with SP1 so I tried an new DVD without SP1, still the same error. In all I tried 3 reburns........

I've read that Windows 7 doesn't like two sata hard drives... and the bios shows the CD/DVD drive as a storage drive.  I may research to find out how to remove it from that status (if that is even possible).

Did you load the defaults in the BIOS?

thank you for your replies.  I did reset the bios to the default.  I was able to load Windows 7 with a flash drive but the CD\DVD drive is not working.  I'm going to try another machine today and see if by some odd chance the first two just had bad drives.
