M700 M800 M900 Tower: upgrade power supply PSU (with a standard aftermarket supply)

We purchased two M800 Full size tower machines.  We need to add additional drives, but the PSU only allows for one additional SATA Connector.  The PSU is using a 10+4 pin connectors and I cannot find a PSU or adapter to adapt a 24 pin PSU.  What options do I have?  Is there such an adapter?

Re: M800 Tower power supplies

Drives, especially SSDs, require every little power.   Why not use SATA power splitters, rather than replacing the power supplies.

Re: M800 Tower power supplies

What if I need to install a video card that requires PSU power? Surely there is an option to adapt PSUs?

Will you need more than a Gtx 750 Ti ?

Re: M800 Tower power supplies

Given the longevity of the systems, I would like to have the option for the future. Addtionally, we stock standard 24-pin power supplies in case of failure and I would like to be able to adapt those so I don't have a bunch of 24 pin power supplies I cannot use; should we decide to pruchase more of these systems.

Re: M800 Tower power supplies

Cable supply companies produced a (ATX 24-pin to Lenovo 14-pin) power adapter cable for the previous generations (M92-M93) of ThinkCentres.    I imagine they will be doing same for the current generation.

I had hoped so as well. I have not been able to find any so far.

Re: M800 Tower power supplies

I think you may be SOL on this one. Lenovo uses a specialized connector to pass power into the system board, then power to extra devices comes off the system board.

I explained to my Lenovo Rep that this is disappointing.

In short, I think you need to contact them to get a larger PSU. I doubt you will find any some where else.

A 24-pin to 10-pin power adapter cable for the M700 M800 & M900 is now available from modDIY.com

The Tower uses a standard ATX power supply, I have had an 650w aftermarket Corsair in mine (I recommend one that is semi-modular and shorter, as space is limited inside the case.) A good example is the Corsair CX-M series.

Re: M800 Tower power supplies

I can confirm this adapter works for M800 (Q150 chipset motherboard). Shipping time isn't too bad either, I ordered on 9/13/16 and it arrived from Hong Kong on 9/23/16.
