M700 Tiny: Ram Upgrade

I am ready to upgrade my RAM as it is currently only 8gb.

Is this a good option?

Beware of this overheat / shutdown issue with these generation Tinys and Crucial 32GB.

Thanks for the link. Quite astounding. I wonder why this isn't an issue with other systems, e.g. on laptops, especially gaming systems, where shutdowns from overheating are also likely to occur.

Re:M700 Tiny: Ram Upgrade

Surprised me also.  Why it affects Tinys, and not other systems, I don't know.  But I now only recommend Crucial when Kingston doesn't have an upgrade option.

Thanks Big Al!

Is this the Kingston you'd recommend?

Re:M700 Tiny: Ram Upgrade

No.  Put in your system information at the Kingston website.  If the Latency (CL) is not correct, then it will run at a lower speed.

M700 Tiny: Ram Install

Recently picked up two of these for my M700

It's been a while since I had to do this. Is it just plug and play?

Re:M700 Tiny: Ram Install

Yes, should be plug-and-play.   If there is a problem, or to be super thorough do a CMOS reset, this will remove the registration of the previous memory (and other components), and will relearn all.

With the system powered off, remove the cmos coin battery, note the orientation, disconnect the power adapter from the wall (but leave it connected to the system itself), and power drain (press and hold the power button for 20 seconds, several times.)  Wait 30 minutes or longer.  Reinstall the battery.

Re:M700 Tiny: Ram Install

Awesome!

Should I install the new ram, and then do the CMOS reset?
