M710Q M.2 SSD Question

2018-09-29, 9:12 AM

Greetings,

i already searched the forum, but i could not find a solution for the question that i have: about a year ago i´ve bought myself a M710q with a SATA HDD drive installed and now i´d like to give it a upgrade with a M2 SSD since there is an expansion slot available at the bottom. Now, i´ve installed a Crucial MX500 2280SS 256 GB drive (CT250MX500SSD4) as outlined by the manual, but within the BIOS the drive is not being recognized, also no trace of it within Windows 10. Any thoughts / recommendations here are appreciated, thanks!

Did you use the compatibility tool that's on the Crucial website?  Only a PCIe drive will work.

Thanks BiggAl, actually i did not use the compatbility tool as i bough the SSD via Amazon. Looks like that made the difference, as its not a PCIe drive. Still, no harm done i´m going to return the Crucial drive and get me a Samsung EVO 970 - that one should do. Again: thanks for your help!
