M720 Boot Problem after disabling Smart Boot in BIOS

2021-10-14, 3:32 AM

Hi all.  I am facing a big problem with my M720.  I want to try some flavor of Linux so I went to the BIOS and disabled Smart Boot. I think I also disabled UEFI Only boot and put the USB device up in the boot order.  Saved the config and exited.  When it was booting up, I pressed F12 to have it stop on Boot device choices but nothing.  It was powered on but nothing was displayed on my monitor, which is connected with a Display-to-HDMI adapter.  The PC was running because the power light was on, the keyboard Numlock light was on and when I press it, it goes off.  Without it booting up, I can't do anything.  I turned it off by pushing the power button for a few seconds and turn it back on after a few seconds, without touching the keyboard, it does not even boot to Win10!

Help!!!!

Thanks in advance.

Solved! Apparently, what I changed in the BIOS changed the default display from DV port to the VGA port! I connected a VGA cable to my monitor and there it was. I may have to restore my BIOS to where it was and not experiment with Linux with this machine.

Hi

How much of what you have done can you undo?

Please give the MTM / Pn of 10 characters.

Is there a NOVO option you can try?

I can't "undo" anything I've done because nothing comes up on my monitor!

Is there a "Reset" pinhole that I use?

Hi

There is no need to experiment as such.

Try the Live version of LinuxMint, it secure boots and if you like it install accordingly.
