Download Thinkvantage System Update, it will pull all the necessary drivers from the net for you.

Re: M81 Downgrade from Windows 7 to XP

The SM Bus Controller is covered by the chipset drivers. Manually download them and launch the .exe. Then navagate to C:\SWTOOLS\DRIVERS\chipset and run setup.exe from there.

Re: M81 Downgrade from Windows 7 to XP

I have tried downgrading.  The system hangs intermittently right after installing Windows XP, is there any settings I need to be aware of on the CMOS/Bios?  I have M81 7518D7U.

Please help.

Re: M81 Downgrade from Windows 7 to XP

I had the same problem. After banging my head against the wall I did this...

1) Went into the BIOS

2) Selected 'Devices'

3) Selected 'ATA Drive Setup'

4) Changes 'Configure SATA as a "IDE" rather than a "AHCI"

5) Disabled 'Native Mode'

Presto-chango! It works!

Re: M81 Downgrade from Windows 7 to XP

Hi all,

Just checking through the threads, has anyone tried RJRJRJ suggestions? I think it should work...  Smiley Very Happy

However, on a another note you may want to update the device directly through device manager. To do this. Go the device manager, right clickthe affected device and then select the update drivers. From there you will be given the option to update through the net and windows xp should be able to pickup correct drivers needed. Please be advised that by updating the drivers this way, can result in a delay. Do not panic if system seems to take its time as it is normal. Just let it do its thing untill the correct driver is located. if none can be found windows will indicate.

Do give it a shot and let know.

Re: M81 Downgrade from Windows 7 to XP

ok.  Found out what was wrong.  The brand new M81.  Has bad blocks on the hard drive and there is something wrong with the motherboard.  It still freezes even if I put in a new hard drive.  Just an FYI.  I had the M81 replaced and everything is working now.

Thank you for all the replies.
