M82 SFF RAM Compatibility

2017-12-06, 16:39 PM

I have M82 with single 4gb ram stick

I want to add another 8GB ram stick which makes it total 12 GB

I found this

My question is , will this work with my existing RAM? The question/answer section says it will work on M82 in general but because my current RAM has a CL of 11 and this is 9 they might not work when combined, also please see other parameters if they will work or not.

Ordinarily if you mix different speed memory cards the BIOS will just slow down the faster one to match that of the slower one.  Can't run any faster than the slowest memory stick you have.

Furthermore, I don't think this DDR3-1333 (PC3-10600) memory is compatible.  Your machine takes DDR3-1600 (PC3-12800), and can even run DDR3-1866 (PC3-14900).  So the memory you are looking at is actually slower, not faster, than your existing memory.

I'd recommend you simply go with a proper memory upgrade that matches your CL=11 DDR3-1600 existing memory.  You can check out the Crucial Memory M82 SFF site for guaranteed compatible options. Don't see any reason to involve Canadian Amazon.
