M83 VS M800 memory usage problem

If use 32-bit Win 7 Pro on M800, it can recognize 3GB memory only and 1GB will be shared by graphic card. For M83, customer can recognize 4GB fully.

Re: M83 VS M800 memory usage problem

Does the M800 have a discrete graphics card installed, and the M83 uses the internal graphics that part of the Intel processor?   That could account for the memory difference.

Are you able to install 64-bit Windows on the M800?   Then you'll have all 4GB available.

Re: M83 VS M800 memory usage problem

M800 just got this problem, do you mean if installed with separate graphic card, it would suffer from this problem?

Sorry, only 32bit is available for installation.

Re: M83 VS M800 memory usage problem

Hi lawjohn

What BiggAI meant is, when separate graphic card is installed, the graphic card would use its own dedicated GPU memory. For integrated graphic card, it would use the system memory / RAM. (as onboard card does not have its own dedicated memory).

Hope this answers your question.

Ok, thanks reply, however, both M83 and M800 run with onboard display, but M83 did not have such issue.

Re: M83 VS M800 memory usage problem

Hi lawjohn

Probably the system board for M800 used a bit more RAM compared to M83, therefore the amount of usable memory when using 32-Bit OS may be slightly different.

Having 3 to 3.5 GB usable memory when using a 32-bit OS is pretty typical.   I have an older T500 Thinkpad with 3GB usable, and lately, as apps use more memory, it's getting restrictive and I'm planning to upgrade to 64-bit soon.
