M600-900: Intel HD530 & 6th gen Graphic Driver Issues, flicker and stop/restart

2016-02-08, 2:37 AM

Hello -

Just received my M900 Tiny last week and an very impressed.  However, there is one nagging issue I wish Intel and Lenovo would address.  The HD 530 Graphics Driver has issues.  There is a thread on the Intel site with numerous complaints of screen flickering or parts of the screen turning black for a second before returning to normal.  This is happening to me.  Intel says they are working on it.

In addition to the issues I've encoutered above, I've received at least three system messages that the HD 530 Graphics driver has momentarily failed but then recovered.  I've contacted Lenovo on the phone, but the service person was not very confident on directing me to the latest driver.  She first directed me to drivers for discreat graphic adapters, but then sent me to the generic video driver page for the M900 Desktops.  Since none of the machines listed specifically indicated M900 Tiny - some mentioned M700 Tiny - I'm holding off until I get a good understanding if the driver will correct the problem.. Since M900 Tiny was recently released I do not think much is available yet for driver updates.

The three system messages indicated the driver was for Windows 8.1 and I have a Windows 10 system.  So I hope Lenovo can get the fix soon (update it for Windows 10) and apply it via the Lenovo Companion software.

Is anyone else having similar issues with thier M900 Tiny?

Here is the Intel link:

Re: M900 Tiny - Intel HD530 Graphic Driver Issues

Well I've downloaded the video driver for the HD530 from the Lenovo site - same driver support told me to install.  Well the install did absolutley nothing - still the same flickering issues and "black" screen flashes when jumping between folders in Outlook 2016.

I'm getting a warning that the HD Graphics driver has failed momentarily but recovered (for Windows 8.1).  Strange because I'm running Windows 10 Home

Guess I'm going to have to escalate the issue through Intel since Lenovo does not have an updated video driver.  My driver has a date of 10/1/2015 and a version of 20.19.15.4300.  You would think Lenovo would have resolved this issue before they released a new model.

This thread my be of help:

Bear in mind you have a 6th generation Intel processor/graphics in the M900, and need to download that driver, should you try a driver direct from Intel.

I am having the same issue with the M900 I just received. I just followed the instructions on the other post and completed the install. Will see if that fixes the issue.

Also Update the BIOS.

Best to use the CD ISO method from the page for your specific model number on Lenovo support.   Especially important for a brand new model like the M900, you'll likely see regular updates for while as the model matures.

Re: M900 Tiny - Intel HD530 Graphic Driver Issues

I have the m900 Tiny version of Lenovo m900 series.  Unfortunately, none of the Bios or video driver updates on Lenovo's site specifically call out m900 Tiny like they do for the m700 Tiny.  I did try loading the video driver update dated 12-03-2015, but that did not correct the issue.  When discussing the issue with Lenovo, they act like m900 Tiny does not exist!  I've never run into such a clueless support group.

I wonder if I could install a dedicated video card in the m900 Tiny to fix this issue?

Mark, use the latest driver from Intel fit the 6th generation processors. It fixed my M900. You need to download the zip file, extract it, then go to the Device Manager and manually select the extracted folder to install the driver.

Download the .zip file for the latest 6th generation graphics driver on the Intel download website, and follow the directions in this link (and on the next page of this thread):

How to bypass driver validation

Note:  follow the steps in Note 1 to properly unpack the zip package.    Double clicking on it in Windows isn't enough.   I have successfully used the 'Extract' option with Win 10 Explorer.   Also, I found that browsing to 'Graphics' directory, it found the correct named file (without the .inf).

Correct... you CANT USE the .exe version. You must download the .zip version and install the driver manually: Device Manager > Display adapters > right-click on Intel(R) HD Graphics 530 > Update Driver Software... > Browse my computer for driver software > Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer > Have Disk... > Browse...

Intel Driver

Yes, but the page that the driver was located on has no Zip file option.  It only has the 32bit and 64bit EXE options.  Check out the link.

Thanks,

Thanks.  I saw this earlier, but thought a newer driver version might be better.  I'll give it a try.

VanceVep -

I installed the driver you suggested and it has significantly improved the constant flashing.  When i used Outlook 2016 and jumped between inbox folders, half of the screen would go static black for a second.  Now only a few artifacts seem to flash on the screen.  Web browsing is clean so far!  It's still not perfect but much, much better.  Thanks much.

Re: M900 Tiny - Intel HD530 Graphic Driver Issues

2016-04-20, 2:12 AM

Here is what I'm running for video on my M900.

From Day One, there have not been ANY video stalls or flashes or anything else unwanted.

Intel HD graphics 530, Dated 10/1/2015, Version 20.19.15.4300, u2vdo41us14.exe

May have picked it up only on the Lenovo support site.

But.......

You should update your UEFI firmware if possible. I'm running the FWKT43A version.

You are using the latest driver from Lenovo?   If so, then yes, that one will stop and restart.

To fix, download the latest 6th gen graphics driver with a .zip file from the Intel website, and install according to the directions earlier in this thread.   Thx.

Your screen shot above shows a Win 8 driver (also used with Win 10) stopping and restarting.
