M900 Tiny WHEA-Logger Event ID 17 warning

2016-10-20, 4:14 AM

My M900 tiny gets lots of WHEA-Logger Event 17 warning after wake up from sleep mode everytime.

This event refresh really fast. (From picture, you can see lots of warning in the same second.)

There are over 3500 warnings in a second. This is a amazing numbers.

System: Windows 10 Pro 14393

Error Message:

A corrected hardware error has occurred.

Component: PCI Express Root Port
Error Source: Advanced Error Reporting (PCI Express)

Bus:Device:Function: 0x0:0x1B:0x0
Vendor ID:Device ID: 0x8086:0xA167
Class Code: 0x30400

The details view of this entry contains further information.

I check device manager. The Samsung NVMe SSD is connected to this PCI Express port.

I had done the following step, all not works.

1. Windows Update

2. Update driver to newest

3. Update BIOS (UEFI Firmware)

4. Recovery Windows with Lenovo official recovery image

I just disable Diagnostic Policy Service in Windows Services. This helps stop this warning refresh in event viewer, but I think this is just a workaround.

The Lenovo solution center checks are all pass.

Is this hardware issue or software issue?

If this is hardware issue, I may RMA this machine to Lenovo.

I checked the BIOS version FWKT5FA which is released at 11/18. The release note says that this version bios had fixed this problem.

I install this bios, but this problem is still happened.

Someone tell me that there is a workaround. Use cmd with command "bcdedit /set pciexpress forcedisable".

After this command, this problem doesn't happen.

I hope Lenovo can fix this problem basically.e

The fix for this M700 was to update the PCI Express Root Port drivers.   You might try the same.

Re: M900 Tiny WHEA-Logger Event ID 17 warning

I'm getting the same errors in Linux kernel 4.8 about 1000 times per second with multiple different Intel 600p NVMe SSDs on initial boot. I contacted support and they thought it was a motherboard issue and had it replaced but it came back as soon as I updated UEFI. I tracked down the issue to a change that was made sometime between v43 and v45 of the systems UEFI.

I'm trying to find a POC for the UEFI team to see if they can determine why this is happening, apparently on both Windows and Linux.

There must have been some undocumented changes between v43 and v45 as the changelog just shows this:

CHANGES for FWKT45A
  - Update Lenovo Diagnostics Tool to v2.09.08.
  - Update PXE ROM to v0.1.09.
  - Fix Bitlocker issue.

CHANGES for FWKT44A
  - Fix USB provision function abnormal.

Note: I also have a ThinkPad Yoga 260 (same generation chipset) and don't have any issues with it using the same SSDs, so its likely a bug in UEFI.

Red Hat - SSME
ThinkStation P320 - ThinkCentre m900 Tiny - ThinkPad P50 - ThinkPad Yoga 260

In response to customer reports of WHEA_Logger Event Viewer ID 17 errors on M900 Tiny systems, Lenovo is scheduled to release a BIOS update, BIOS v.67, by the end of January.

In lab testing, Lenovo confirmed generation of the errors on an Intel drive. These were resolved by the beta BIOS.

I will post again when the BIOS has been published.

Thank you,

Hello, thanks for reply new BIOS.

I had tested this version. When M900 wakes up from sleep, there are the same errors in event viewer.

There are some different. The error numbers are less than before.

Now, system pops error about every 2 seconds, but still has same error.

Jalen,

I am sorry to hear the new BIOS did not resolve this issue for you.

Would you mind posting a new picture of the errors so we can see what new ones are occurring?

Thank you,

Jalen,

Do the errors occur after the system boots up, or only after resuming from sleep?

Thank you,
