M900 Tower - PCIe NVMe M.2 adapter compatibility

Hi,

I have a Lenovo M900 Tower 10FCS1E100 (bios FWKT90A).

I'm also planning on adding a Samsung PRO 960/970 NVMe SSD which has a M.2 2280 Form Factor with this card;

1.) Does the motherboard support the PCIe x16 port 3.0?
2.) All PCI slots are currently empty. Which card do I take to get the max speed in SSD? And which slot should I plug in? and is this card compatible?

1.  Yes.

2.  Refer to the diagram on previous page (2) of this thread.  The upper long slot (closest to processor) is a x16 slot. Period.  The lower long slot can negotiate the lanes it the card needs, a PCIe SSD needs 4 lanes (x4), this slot can supply that (and more -- but SSD only uses 4 max, it will not run faster in the x16 only slot.)  If later you put in a graphics card, that typically goes in the x16 slot (upper.)

Re: ThinkCentre M900 Desktop SamsungNVMe SSD 960 EVO M.2

Slot 24 is (like all the other slots) setable in BIOS what gen to use. This particular slow can be Auto, Gen 1 or Gen 2, but NOT Gen 3 (as that option does not exist)

Do you mean you can boot from m2.0 SSD from StarTech PCI Card?
