Re: Lenovo ThinkCentre M91p 7033-A2U Intel i5 3.1GHz I would like to runautocad programing advice p

I looked at the Hardware recommendations for 2020 Design v11:

F-2020.png

and my recommendations would be to:   keep running Win 7 64-bit,  and add a MSI low-profile gtx 750 Ti .

No change to memory is required with 8 GB (ECC not supported on any ThinkCentre), but keep tabs on maxiumum utilization, if it routinely gets above 70%, bump to 16 GB - memory is cheap.    See how that runs.   To take it to the next level would be to replace or supplement the hard disk with a SSD.

(Since your system is older, to ensure the necessary airflow to the graphics card, clean the front air intake and fan with vacuum and canned compressed air, jam the fan with a cable tie or similar so it can't spin and over-speed.  Same for CPU fan and heat sink, and vac the intake and rear exhaust of the power supply. )

Yes, blue is a pair, and white is a pair.   This is from an upgrade thread I'm working on:

" For maximum system performance, you want to keep maximum memory utilization under 70% Use Windows 'Task Manager' to view your memory utilization. (Further performance to be had with 'dual-channel' mode -- identical spec modules installed in pairs.)

If you do not wish to buy memory from Lenovo, both Kingston and Crucial have 'System Specific' memory for your system that is OEM equivalent and guaranteed compatible. Memory timings must match what the BIOS expects for the system to recognize it, generic memory often doesn't work. A few older system types (eg. some models of M58), required a BIOS update to support 4 GB modules.

Use your system's Hardware Maintenance Manual for instructions on how to upgrade the memory. After making any memory change, run 2 passes of MemTest86 to ensure all is well.  It is advisable to update your BIOS before a hardware upgrade or new OS version install, to ensure you have maximum hardware support and fixes. "

For the BIOS, follow the info in the pinned thread  'Help us to help you' , and download the hardware maintenance manual for memory install instructions.   (you may need to change the boot order in the BIOS to boot from the optical drive)

I've seen that Kingston part number before - I've used those to upgrade M91p systems in the past.    And when I googled the Lenovo fru number, I found a Lenovo link that says it can be used in a M91p,  so both that memory should work.

I suggest reinstall that memory according to the info in the hardware maintenance manual, download MemTest86, burn a CD, and run 2 passes.

I know I was adviced to get  MSI low-profile gtx 750 Ti . I could get these 2 cards on eBay also looking at third option EVGA GeForce GT 730 2GB (Low Profile)
Is it better it better to get one of the older ones on ebay which one is better? I assume the the
ThinkStation NVS 315 1GB Graphics Card is better then  Lenovo GeForce 605 1GB DMS59 Graphics Card or to buy new EVGA GeForce GT 730 2GB (Low Profile)
http://www.ebay.com/itm/391475504666?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT $52 NVS315 1GBGraphics card
http://www.ebay.com/itm/391426541955?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT  $32 GeForce 605 1GB DMS59

3) EVGA GeForce GT 730 2GB (Low Profile)
http://www.evga.com/Products/Product.aspx?pn=02G-P3-3733-KR I could get this for $69

Having not used 2020 myself, I can only go by their published recommendations (post # 3 above.)     Your system, with an i5, is behind in the processor recommendation.   I'd be concerned that if you're also significantly behind in the graphics recommendation (CAD is very graphics intensive), the usability of the program on your system could be poor.   The video benchmark for a GT 730 is 925 vs. 3,683 for a GTX 750 Ti.
