Re: M92p Tiny (2121A4U) and Three Monitors

Thanks Jin.

What do you mean the second displayport breakout cable. There is currently, one Displayport breakout cable which splits into two.

USB2DVI is another option? So monitor 1 - VGA, monitor 2 - Displayport, monitor 3 - usb2dvi?

Yes the solution you proposed would work.

Re: M92p Tiny (2121A4U) and Three Monitors

I have the same trouble. My M92p Tiny has two display port and one VGA output on the back. When I connect two monitors via DP-to-DVI adapters and one monitor via VGA, only the two DP-connected monitors work. If I unplug one of the DP monitors, the VGA and remaining DP monitor work. I want all three and all three in independent mode. The documentation for this model says it supports 3 independent displays, but your solution here seems to only support two independent displays and one clone or one independent and two mosiac. Am I mistaken? How do I get all three in independent mode?

I haven't figured it out.

I currently have 3 monitors running with two coming from DVI spliter and one via vga. Vga is independent but the dvi screens is basically one very long monitor stretched out.

All;

Sorry I didin't follow up, got sidetracked, however . . .

2121-d6u is the machine you're after ultimately.  Still the M92p Tiny, but a model number that has DP built-in.  That's how we ended up getting 3 monitors to work.

If you're unable to find stock for that one, you can check Lenovo's PSREF (http://www.lenovo.com/psref/pdf/tcbook.pdf) sheet that will give you specs on all sub-models of every machine and you should be able to find the model number for another one with an optional DP port.  I'd recommend doing a search of the PDF for the above number and then scrolling around from there to compare.

Hope that helps.

I am also having this same problem, windows see's the third monitor but I cannot extend to it or copy it.  I have it setup through 2 individual display ports to two monitors and another monitor to the VGA.

I have a 2121d6u, and I have called support and they told me to go away, as long as one monitor was working they didnt care.

We have a couple big orders coming up and this was my first time interacting with lenovo support, seriously thinking about cancelling those orders.

I, too, called Lnovo support and had a lengthy talk with two different agents. Neither knew exactly how to make all three monitors work in Independent mode, though they both did agree that the documentation says that it is supported. One suggested I needed two monitors with native Display Port inputs for it to work, but she was not entirely sure that would solve my problem. I'm not going to buy two new monitors just to get it working with three displays. This is absurd!

Re: M92p Tiny (2121A4U) and Three Monitors

Like a lot of people I've spent many hours trying to get three independent monitors working with my M92p Tiny (2121) and finally solved it.  So just in case it helps other people here are the details.

1. Check that your model of m92p supports true three independent monitors - refer to the tech specs.  Mine was a 2121-e8g [Intel i5-3470T with HD 2500]

2. The key bit is that the m92 will not support all configurations for use with 3 monitors (low-end processors with basic HD Graphics do not) -- this information is on the intel site as the graphics is part of the I5 processor - http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/intelhdgraphics4000_2500/sb/CS-033714.htm

In brief the main supported mode is 2 * displayport monitors and 1 * vga monitor. i.e. you must have two DisplayPort monitors or fool the m92p into thinking you have.

3. Buy the  Displayport Breakout Cable part number  54Y9350 this gives you the second displayport connector. I bought this direct from the IBM uk site for about £10.

4. Now if you have two displayport monitors and 1 vga monitor just plug them in and it will work. (I updated my drivers from the intel site) When I say displayport monitors you must connect them with a "displayport to displayport" cable.

5. If like me you only have monitors with dvi inputs then you need to buy a dp to dvi convertor - this must be an "ACTIVE" convertor that can fool the m92p into thinking it's connected to a displayport. I bought this one http://www.ebuyer.com/238403-sapphire-active-display-port-to-single-link-dvi-adaptor-cable-44000-02-40r?utm_source=google&utm_medium=products&gclid=CPnTra-OkbcCFfQZtAodBX0APg for about £21.

The standard DP to DVI convertors for £5 do not work.

Hope this helps

Mod comment:  most DP adapters are Passive.  Unless the part number for yours shows that it's an Active adapter, assume it's passive.
