M92p Tiny: 3 three monitors (independent displays, optional 3rd video port, 2121-A4U)

Hi,

I have a new M92p Tiny (2121A4U) that was purchased to take advantage of the 3 native independent displays.  Additionally the DisplayPort to Dual-DisplayPort Adapter (0B47092) was purchased to facilitate this as I was told that is what i needed.

So far, I can get either cloned or stretched desktop on the two DP monitors, but NOT extended/independent displays.  I called Lenovo Support and after walking them through their own product and what their marketing department is saying exists, was told that the Intel HD 2500 card doesn't work for this.  According to the PSREF (pg 161), this DOES work.

One would think it'd be simple, but so far . .  nothing.  I've updated all drivers and BIOS, downloaded and installed the Mosaic driver and such, but still . . . no change.

So, does this work? Or not?  And if so, how do you go about doing it?

Thanks in advance!

Re: M92p Tiny (2121A4U) and Three Monitors

Sorry something feel on my keyboard when i went out of the office momentarily.

What i was saying is that you mentioned:

I can get either cloned or stretched desktop on the two DP monitors, but NOT extended/independent displays.

When you say stretched desktop do you mean, that the two external screens display the same thing.

Also, how are you connecting the third LCD? is it through Displayport or VGA?

Also which three screens model are you using?

Is the two external LCD connected to the Displayport splitter the same or different?

Re: M92p Tiny (2121A4U) and Three Monitors

No worries, just wasn't sure what it meant, lol.

No, stretched means that taskbar and apps stretch across two of the monitors and "center" of any app or desktop on those two is between the two monitors. The third, connected to the VGA port, worked as an independent desktop.

Not sure on the monitors exactly, but was told that two (both on the DP) were the same.

Does the splitter work in extended/independent mode or is there another DP supposed to be on the machine?  Was lead to believe by my distrib that the splitter was the way to achieve that.

Re: M92p Tiny (2121A4U) and Three Monitors

Okay let me illustrate what the displayport splitter can do under full 'Ultra-extended mode'.

If you have 2 x 1920x1200 LCD, the splitter fools the computer into thinking that it is outputting to a large LCD with 3840x1200 resolution. As such the two LCD connected to the splitter is acting as one giant LCD of 3840x1200. So they are not fully independent like if they are acting as two separate monitor.

Yeah, was starting to seem that way.  Guess distrib recommended the wrong one and 2121-A1U should be the one to get..  Thanks!

Re: M92p Tiny (2121A4U) and Three Monitors

simple fix is to get a ThinkPad USB 3.0 dock, and return the splitter.

Re: M92p Tiny (2121A4U) and Three Monitors

@Lead Org

I am having this same problem as above. I have a m92p, 3 x Samsung 940NPlus monitors (i know they are old) 1280x 1024. One screen is running via VGA, 2 screens running via the Displayport splitter. I've managed to get the two screens via Displayport running as one extended screen.

Really feel like we've been fooled by Lenovo that they would be running 3 screens independently. Does the USB 3.0 splitter solve this problem? Thanks.

Re: M92p Tiny (2121A4U) and Three Monitors

@jlau928,

The ThinkPad USB 3.0 dock would solve this issue. Or installing the second displayport breakout cable, and get a USB2DVI adapter would also be a viable choice.
