Re: Need guidance in selecting an AIO
I am helping a relative purchase an all in one. Given the person's needs as a professional translator, I was going to suggest the Thinkcentre Edge 91z with Win 7 Pro x64 (the same OS version as her Edge 420); Core i3 or the slowest Core i5, 4GB RAM and 320 GB drive. She mainly works with MS Office, Acrobat, and browsers; entertainment is not a priority. The main need is for a stable machine like her Edge 420 laptop. Is the Edge 91z a good option compared to one of the Idea center boxes?
Also, she resides outside of the US and can only find the 91z with French keyboards and French versions of the OS there. This can be addressed easily by sending those from here. However, my main worry is the process of doing a clean installation of Win 7 on the 91z. Is the process similar to doing a clean install on some Thinkpads? I am familiar with those and all I had to do was to install the OS, install System Update and let it do its work to update drivers. Does the Win 7 disk come with basic drivers for the ethernet card for the 91z so that she can get on the net after a clean install? Or do I need to save copies of the SWTOOLS and Drivers directory (like in the case of the Edge 420) before doing a clean installation and then manually install the NIC drivers so that she can update the system?
