I want to upgrade my processor on my Lenovo Thinkcenter Edge 71 ( 1578 L6F )
I know it an old computer and for a lot of people it is not worth the trouble. But I do that as a personal studio to learn more about computer modification.
Lenovo motherboard ih61m v1.0 bios 9QKT39A
official info page:https://support.lenovo.com/ca/en/documents/pd015002 listes procesor:
Intel® Core i3-2100T Processor (3.1 GHz, 3MB Cache)
Intel® Core i5-2500T Processor (2.3GHz, 6MB Cache)
Intel® Core i5-2390T Processor (2.7GHz, 3MB Cache)
Intel® Pentium Processor G850 (2.9 GHz, 3M Cache)
Intel® Pentium Processor G840 (2.8 GHz, 3M Cache)
Intel® Pentium Processor G620 (2.6 GHz, 3M Cache)
but I have Intel® Pentium Processor G630 2.7 GHz inside
I have done research on eBay for the pricing i5-2500T Processor 2.3GHz is rare and I do not see it a lot.
but I have fond i5-2500s and i5-2500k that are more common and less expressive
Here my question;
I have read somewhere in a forum the official information page is made at the release of the product and it not updated to the new standard of technology so sometimes it can take more ram or other prose sot that is not listed.
Will it be possible to install i5-2500s and i5-2500k on my machine ?
or Core i5-2310-2.9GHz SR02K CPU
or any other that is not listed
i have also heard that you can under clock you processor to fit your motherboard speck , is that true?

Other ThinkCentre owners have had decent success upgrading to a processor that had been installed at the factory during it's lifecycle (I suggest you update the BIOS before hand, so you have support for all of them.) There are some instances where a different processor works, sometimes posting an error message, but still booting, but it's a crapshoot.

Update to the latest BIOS to support a processor that had been installed at the factory during it's lifecycle.
It's crapshoot that that any of the others will be recognized by the BIOS and will work at all.

I have 2 different sources of information from Lenovo
The supported processors are different.
I try to look if the upgrade history of the bios. If it has added compatibility to more processor.
try to click to Summary of change made in previous update
but the page goes nowhere
The connection has timed out
I am looking for the official, up-to-date info on supported processors for ThinkCentre 71 1578.

The BIOS history is in the BIOS download page, in the 'Installation instructions for flash UEFI BIOS update (CD ISO image version)' file. Or perhaps I'm misunderstanding.
and your #2 link goes to buying a current laptop..

When I Googled your system and model number, I saw this Edge 71 1578 spec close to the top? That is the processor your wanting to upgrade to.

Please delete your other post. This splinters responses.
You state 3 weblinks:
(1) pointing to specs for 3 models of a Think 71, US models.
(2)the .../ema/.. link does not work by clicking. If you copy/paste the link, it shows sales specs from 2013/2104, for www.lenovo.com western europe, with Tower machines and small form factor machines. A 1578 is SFF. This sales spec shows CPU's on the left side for tower and on the right side for SFF. The WE(west europe) CPU's selection of processors offered is different than the US selections. Sometimes Lenovo will show a spec option and never actually build that machine. On the other side, Lenovo will make special builds for walmart, office depot, tiger.com and finding specs find nothing.
(3) link to old downloads is of no use.
You can find specs at psref.lenovo.com for MOST machines.
You can find withdrawn US machines here:
Like your ema link, this one is not working lately.
It shows Edge71 1578 small topseller - withdrawn.
It shows Edge71 1578 small topseller II -withdrawn.
Each spec shows completely different processors. Probably a 2013 offering and a 2014 offering.
Like BiggAL, I ask, what are you looking for info wise. The BIOS on your support page from 2014, is the last available and supports models Lenovo built at that time.
BiggAL suggest your question is upgrade processor related, which it may be.
Clarify your question please.
