ThinkCentre M700: can I upgrade to 7th gen processor? i3-7100

Hi,

The processor on my M700 just gone. (I tryed anotherone and the pc worked perfeclty). Now I'm looking to replace it ( an i3 6100) with a brand new (used) one. If I find a 7 generation CPU, can I intall it or I need a bios update? (Mother Board FRU 01AJ167), Chipset IH110MS.
Thanks a lot!

Re: ThinkCentre M700 i3 7100

Only the 6th gen are known to work.  You might replace it with one of the i5 from this list (I suggest the i5-6500):

Re: ThinkCentre M700 i3 7100

So there isn't any bios update or mod that can help me?

Re: ThinkCentre M700 i3 7100

I have edited my answer above, to what processors are known to work.

It is possible that a 7th gen could work, although unlikely since the 7th gen was used in the next gen M710 ThinkCentre, but possible.  If you are willing to try, I suggest updating to the latest BIOS prior to doing so (you also want to do so for all the security fixes), using the CD or USB drive methods.

Re: ThinkCentre M700 i3 7100

Thank you very much!
I downloaded the last bios update for M700 (m05jy83usa) and checked the CPUID inside.

Unfortunately It support just 506e3 processors (all Skylake 6 gen) and 506e1 (unknown to me)

I'll try to add microcode to this bios.

ThinkCentre M700 CPU upgrade

ThinkCentre M700
Serial Number: S4Z35824
Machine Type Model: 10GQS17600
BIOS is H110 Skylake-S
Operating System Windows 10 (64-bit)

Now it is i3-6100 inside.

I want to make an upgrade with 4 cores CPU.

I know there were models with i5-6400-6500-6600, but it is a problem to buy them now.

Is it possible to install 7th generation Intel Core i5 CPU (for example i5-7400) ?

Re: ThinkCentre M700 CPU upgrade

No, you can't upgrade to Kabylake Cpu, just SkyLake.
I'm working on a bios modded to allow me (and you of course) to use /gen cpu.

Here in the US, there are a good many (189) of the i5-6500 available on Ebay.  Not many of the other two supported models.  Buy from a seller with good and extensive feedback, and with a decent return policy, just in case.

Re: ThinkCentre M700: can I upgrade to 7th gen processor? i3-7100

Ok, I did it!
I replaced cpu microcode for CPUID 506E1 with cpu microcode for CPUID 906E9 for KabyLake CPU.

I hope it works
Is there any way to try the bios without flash it?
