ThinkCentre M720q Tiny: Adding Serial Ports

2019-10-16, 11:21 AM

There is a Header called COM1 on the Mainboard of the PC.

Unfortunately, i can't find the Partnumber for the adapter from that internal header to the RS-232 Port witch i can screw into the back of the case.
Can anybody help me?

Thanks for your reply. However, I have found the part myself:
Lenovo Part Number: 04X2733
Name: Fru, 50mm Com2 cable w/levelshift

The name is a bit misleading but it works as I thought. You plug it into the Header on the Mainboard and screw the connector into the back. (Even works with a SATA SSD)
I am assuming the card would work perfectly too, especially when you need two Serial ports.

This helped me too

Yes you can. But not two 04X2733. You need another Card.

Here are all the options for Serial on the M720q:

Up to 2 Serial-Ports:
You can add up two to Serial-Ports to the back of the PC:

First the one mentioned by me:

Lenovo Part Number: 04X2733
Name: Fru, 50mm Com2 cable w/levelshift

Decription: This adapter plug into a port on the mainboard wich is only used for the Serial-Port. The port is called COM1.

And the one mentioned by Agry_IT:

Lenovo Part Number: 01AJ936
Name: Fru, COM2 card

Decription: This adapter plug into a port on the mainboard witch can be used for multiple AddOn-Cards. Your can use that port for example to add an aditional Display or the COM2 card.

Picture:

You can use the both of the above simultaneously.

4 Serial Ports:

If you need more you can also add 4 Serial ports:

You need to use a PCIe adapter card. This means loosing the option for a SATA-SSD.

You also need an Adapter from Lenovos proprietary PCIe to a standart PCIE-Connector.

Since there isn't enouth space for more than two Serial-Ports you need to use an adapter cable.

Here are the parts:

Lenovo Part Number: 01AJ932
Name: Fru, Sunix Tiny5 4 COM-Karte

Decription: The PCIe cards itself.

Picture:

Lenovo Part Number: 01AJ929
Name: Fru, Pcie4-Adapterk.

Decription: The Adapter from Lenovos PCIe to a standard PCIe.

Picture:

Lenovo Part Number: 01AJ870
Name: Fru, 4 Serial card cable

Decription: This ist the Cable from the PCIe-Card to 4 COM-Ports.

Picture:

You can look the parts up under support.lenovo.com.

Hopefully this helps.
