Thinkcentre M700 10HY0052MH bios update in Windows went bad

2020-01-18, 10:04 AM

I was lucky to get a M700 off a friend of mine.

This was previously used  in an office environment.

I installed Windows 10 Pro fresh and used the Automatic Driver Detetc utility to get everything up-to-date.

One of the components to update was the BIOS. Now i have alot of computer experience so updating from windows should be fine.

I was wrong.

The bios update reset the computer to only give me a black screen en blinking power led.

As  i was updating the bios i left ik like this for 15min but it stayed in theat state.

I held the power button to turn the computer off and eve since then it is dead.

Turning on the power the cpu fan does rotate and if i have an USB(with notification led) drive inserted i do see it gets power.

There is no beep at power on.

I have tried the Clear CMOS jumper, bios recovery and removing the jumper and CMOS battery.

I created a bootable USB stick and put the USB Drive UEFI BIOS Flash Package on it to no luck.

I formatted an usb driver with fat and fat32 filesystem and put only the image imagefw.rom in the root.

I did this for both the fbios version available on the website.

I have read that it is crucial to update in a specific order.

I know that the bios that was on the computer dated 2016 so i am guessiing i will need or that version or one just after but i cannot find these anywhere.

The 2 version i have tried are from 2019 and 2020 being: FWKTA5A and FWKTA7A

Can anyone provide me with and older BIOS version or a link to it please?

If the version of thge bios is FWKT63A - 12.08.2016 what would be the best and proper way to update it to the most recent version?

I have read that bios uipdates have failed due to critical updates to the bios before installing the latest.
