Thinkcentre M92p doesn't recognize PCI express card

I'm trying to add a dual-eSATA controller to my M92 model 3209. It's a PCI-express card. I've tried both the x16 and x1 (or x4, or whatever it is) and the PC just refuses to see it - it doesn't show up in the Windows 10 device manager (either as a drive controller or an unknown device) or in the BIOS. This card worked successfully in both a Dell Optiplex and an older M91 PC, so I'm fairly sure that's not the issue (it showed up in the BIOS in both of those). I have tried updating the BIOS but it didn't help. Also tried resetting the BIOS to optimal defaults, also with no results. For what it's worth, I added a PCI (non-express) sound card to the same PC, and it worked first time.

Any ideas?
