Unexpected shutdown windows 10 'grub rescue' command line on restart

2017-05-04, 16:05 PM

Lenovo M running Windows 10 shutdown all by itself.  No weird sounds, just shutdown.  On restart, it posted OK but instead of booting this command line came up:  grub rescue>    I used setprefix command to try and find which device computer was booting from but all of them returned 'unknown filesystem'.  Any ideas?  Is this a dead hard drive?

You may need to load the part_gpt and fat grub modules first.

For my system the Windows Boot Manager entry looks like the following:

menuentry 'Windows Boot Manager (on /dev/nvme0n1p1)' --class windows --class os $menuentry_id_option 'osprober-efi-2421-FB08' {
        insmod part_gpt
        insmod fat
        if [ x$feature_platform_search_hint = xy ]; then
          search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set=root  2421-FB08
        else
          search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set=root 2421-FB08
        fi
        chainloader /EFI/Microsoft/Boot/bootmgfw.efi
}
