What music app, and how much memory do you have?

It looks like from the Psref for that model, that it could have shipped with up to a Core i7-7700, so you should be able to install that in the place of your your Core i5-7400 without any problem.

If your music application is causing high CPU usage, you may first want to ensure that the CPU cooling fan and heat-sink are clean, and perhaps even re-paste the CPU with a good quality heat-sink compound to ensure it can transfer heat efficiently to the heat sink to prevent overheating, which would result in the CPU slowing down (thermal throttling) in order to lower the temperature.

Cheers,

Thanks for the great advice . Its while rendering tracks that the CPU goes up into 90 plus % . This can lead to errors in the rendering process . I have a CPU monitor . I will see if i can track temperature changes when rendering . I will check out the prices of Core a i7-7700 CPU ,, depending on price i might buy one and see can i fit it . Your advice is much appreciated :-) Thanks for Reply :-)

Have you monitored memory utilization while rendering?  If it gets low (less than 15% available), that could contribute to high CPU utilization.

Reaper (DAW )  has  a performance meter ,, here are results .  It look like its the CPU and not the RAM ?

CPU: 95.6%

RAM use : 2427MB

System Free 8037MB/16249

22Fx: 26.52% CPU

Looks like Reaper is using 2.4GB memory, and the system has 8GB free out of 16GB.  So you are more than fine from a memory perspective.

Have you monitored your temps during a render?  And what the CPU clocks are towards the end of the render?  This will tell you if the CPU is thermal throttling.  How long does a larger render take?

Looking at the processor benchmarks, you could realistically gain ~15% better performance with the i7-7700, a noticeable gain, but not a game changer (may not be worth the cost.)  With i5 at 95%, it is not suffering from a lack of available cores for threads.

One way to ensure your entire system is running as expected, is to benchmark it using the 'PassMark' free system benchmark and compare it with other M710t or M710s with the same processor/memory, etc.
