Wifi card for M720t

2019-06-04, 13:12 PM

First post - can't find a search box so apologies if duplicated. Just ordered a new M720t i5 standard package that customer support have advised doesn't include any installed wifi or bluetooth. Any recommendations for best buy for this would be appreciated.

I am preferring PCIe above M.2. or basic USB as our signal/speed is not great, so currently considering Gigabyte GC-WB1733D-I Wireless-AC PCI-E Network Interface Card + Bluetooth v5.0-1733Mbps, but not sure if this is entirely appropriate.

Any help/advice appreciated.

I suspect that the vast majority of newer generation systems use M.2 cards for WiFi/Bluetooth.

Out of the 4 systems in my home, the one that is pre-M.2 is directly Ethernet cable connected to the router; the other 3 all use Intel M.2 WiFi/Bluetooth cards of various generations, matching the generation of the system.  Sorry I can't be of more assistance.

Thank you BiggAl for your response. I have to say I am finding Lenovo very user-unfriendly for information about the system I have purchased and what they can propose as additional post-purchase hardware/upgrades etc.

It's probably just me, but I can't easily see whether the M.2. on the M720t is simply another connection through PCIe or is dedicated, but either way, having looked around at other forums on this subject I find that the consensus is that unless my wifi is blisteringly fast it is all irrelevant anyway (subject to what is most convenient slot-wise).

As I don't have a fast wifi and can't easily use cable, I think I will get a better result with a PCIe card and externally extended aerials, so will probably use the Gigabyte one originally suggested.

Thanks again!
