Will resizing the C drive cause recovery failure?

2013-09-14, 4:10 AM

I am new to Lenovo's recovery process.

I would like to resize the C drive in order to install ubuntu so that I can dual boot into windows or ubuntu.

If I just resize C drive and keep the d drive which is the recovery partition unchanged, will the recovery process fail because c drive is resized?

The recovery process will not fail, but it will wipe all partitions on the hard drive, including the linux partition. Installing Ubuntu messes with Lenovos custom MBR as well causing problems with the recovery partition, so it's tricky either way you look at it. Do you have room for a second hard drive?

thank you for your advice.

I think it makes sense that the recovery process will wipe the harddisk and remove the ubuntu partition.

But can I burn a recovery disc and format the d drive? (I double clicked the d drive and have an option to "Create recovery media") Then, I can use the "recovery DVD" to restore the machine?

If it is possible, I can safely resize and remove the d drive, right?

Press F11 at the bootup screen to be taken into the recovery partition. there you can (and should) select to make a set of recovery media. (Usually a couple of DVDs) You can use these discs to return your machine to factory state. You can format the harddrive anyway you wish then, and still have the option of returning it to a factory state with the DVDs.

is that possible to get the checksum of the DVDs? I have some very bad experience about burning the DVD ( spent a whole day to install Windows with a bad DVD copy....)
