nVidia card for M58p model 6234

Can I install a 45K1669 (nVidia Quadro NVS295 NVS 295 256MB Dual Monitor Graphics Card PCI-e Low Profile) into an M58p 6234?  I'll only be using one of the two DisplayPorts on the card.  According to the Product Specification Reference, 45K1669 is for "Tower 9960/7373/6239/9965/7484/7188/6138/6209/3063/3285/9728/7639
support 75 watts max:" and not listed amonst graphics cards for  the 6234.  However the 45K1669 is just 23 watts and I think should be fine in the 6234.

Re: nVidia card for M58p model 6234

The compatibility matrix HERE says it is not compatible, but I'm not sure for what reasons. ThinkCentres are generally accepting of Quadro NVS cards because they are low power. This list is from 2010.

I'm using a 512MB Nvidia GeForce 310 (57Y4397) in my M58 7360. Where this guide says it is not compatible, it has worked without a hitch.

I'd try it, you won't hurt the machine to see if it works. I think it probably would.

Thanks for the post.  I see no reason why it won't work - will post back results when the card arrives this week.

Re: nVidia card for M58p model 6234

Just thinking aloud here,

on the product overview site for the 6234 under Graphics it shows;

  • Integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500
  • ATI Radeon HD3470 256M PCIe

My guess is that the 45K1669 doesn't appear on the compatibility site because there is already / was originally a card present??  The lists may well have been created with compatibility whilst purchasing in mind rather than "will it work" compatibility.

OK - card received and installed.  Detected and configured by Linux on first power-up and no issues.

Re: nVidia card for M58p model 6234

Actually, this exact card (MPN 45K1669) does show up on the Lenovo compatibility matrix for the M58p: type 6234.

I just bought the Lenovo 512MB nVidia GeForce 310 PCI-E Display Port VGA Video Card (MPN: 57Y4397 FRU: 71Y8665) and this card is also present on the compatibility matrix for type 6234 (my machine).
