That's a WIndows XP driver so its not at all surprising that doesn't work with Windows Server 2008.  You might want to try to find a Vista x86 driver and try that!

has only XP and 2000 drivers.

This is a shame because I have 1.25 GB on the A50 and the performance is decent as a PC
for learning 2008.  The performance is so good that it could even be a production server
for a smaller business.

Windows 2008 is not a supported OS for the A50 so you are on your own in terms of finding drivers, but as it involves a standard audio chipset, any Vista x86 driver for that chipset should work.

The solution is simple but not easy to spot ... although IBM / Lenovo have an XP driver
that Windows 2008 rejects when it is run ...

prior to running the      setup.exe    as described in
q2aud02us13.txt     3,457

Installation instructions for ADI SoundMAX audio driver

Installing the update
---------------------
1.  Click Start, then click Run.
2.  Type C:\IBMTOOLS\DRIVERS\q2aud02us13\Setup.exe, then click OK.
3.  Follow the onscreen prompts to complete the installation.                      (see my note below)
Shutdown and restart your system when the installation is complete.

The TRICK is to right-click Setup.exe, select Properties, Compatibility, then say RUN as
Windows XP SP2 compatibility ...

A couple of restarts happen, a couple of error messages occur,
including one about not having an ADI codec ...

BUT eventually the SOUND works ............................. HURRAH !!!!!!

Footnote:  to someone called moderator,
sorry, I did not see any message
                  about changing my location; honest,
I really am from PLANET  EARTH (isn't everyone???).
For reasons of PRIVACY (which AFAIK IBM and Lenovo
endorse) I'd prefer not to be TOO specific.  After all,
there's a hole lot of crazy peoples out in the www
(Wild, Wild, Web).  Not only did I not see your request,
I'm embarrassed to say that I got no idea where to fix
it up anyway because it was one of those gazillion
sign me up questions.  Sorry.  Do advise further pls.
                  & thanks.  FC

At the top of the forum site, click on My Profile. The location field is about half way down the page.  Enter at least the name of the country where you are.  Products, options and services vary from market to market, and knowing what country you're in helps others help you.

Also, please stop posting in so many wildly different sizes and colors in the same message.  It makes your messages difficult to read.
