Battery run time. Bad battery or firmware?

2015-08-30, 1:02 AM

Hi,

I have Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E330.

few months ago I have got a few messages like "Battery Error" (I don't remember the exact text). From that time nothing changed with battery run time, if I remember well. However ,after some time the battery suddenly went from 5ish hours run time to one hour or less.

I would guess the problem could be something like this https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht001086

but I haven't find any reliable tool from Lenovo to check the battery.

Lenovo solution displays "Health: Fair" in the battery status tab.

I have also tried to update battery firmware (http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds001322), but it didn't help.

My Notebook is still in warranty. Is there any solution for this problem, or should I try reclamation?

Thanks

Jan

Hi Naveen,

thanks for reply. I have Win 8.1 64bit. Do you mean to download the driver for the Power Management? There isn't one for my OS, however there is one for Win 8 64bit. Should I download that one? Should I download something else?

Thank you

Koubin

Hello,

unfortunately battery last roughly the same time. Is there any other way to change that, or any battery diagnostic tool which would you recomend?

By the way what does exactly mean "Battery health : Fair" in the Lenovo Solution Center?

Thank you

Koubin

Hi Koubin,

Battery health is nothing but the condition of the battery and its life cycle were green colour indicates the battery is in good condition and the yellow colour indicates the battery is in fair and the red colour indicated the battery is in poor condition. So as per the status of the battery i.e. fair condition and as per the above post the battery gives 1 hour or less than 1 hour of back up. Hence I would suggest you to replace the new battery to your machine.

Please let me know, whether the above suggestion helped you.

Thank you, have a good day.

Regards,

Naveen.v

Ok, I aam just saying, that there was no low decreasing of battery capacity, but it went straight from 5ish hours to 1. Thats weird, isn't it.

Computer is still in waranty, so I will try to go for some service place.

Thanks

Hi Koubin,

Appreciate for your quick reply!

That would be a great idea, I suppose the issue might get covered under warranty. However, please find the link given below to find out the authorised Lenovo service centre according to your location for further assistance.

Click here to open a link where you can select the country and get the exact contact support number. I’m sure they will be a great help.

And can you please confirm me, whether is there any heating issue with the machine? If so, please mention were exactly the heat is felt for example: Base cover or near the battery or on the keypad and Touchpad.

Please let me know, whether the above suggestion helped you.

Thank you, have a good day.

Regards,

Naveen.v
