E420 Repair depot billable hold for $950? Being scammed.

2011-11-18, 22:44 PM
I purchased my e420 approx 4 months ago and upon trying to power it on last week it would not boot. I sent it into the repair depot and today I got notice that it was on hold for customer information. Upon speaking to the billing department they mentioned fluid damage (which is impossible because only I have access to my laptop and I am careful with it). I've read through the forums and it seems this is a common thing. To be told that there is liquid damage when there is not. If that isn't something to be upset with, they are trying to charge $950 for the repair. That's nearly 2x the cost of the laptop itself. For that price I could purchase a brand new MacBook pro. I'm extremely upset over this and incredibly disappointed lenovo would scam me in this way. I'd purchased a Lenovo for the assurance it was a quality built machine and that support was significantly better than other brands. It's absurd to me they are claiming fluid damage but also expecting me to pay 2x the cost of the laptop for repair. This is nothing but a fraud. I hope someone here can rectify this issue for me because it's absolutely outrageous my laptop would stop functioning in less than 4 months of use but also to be told they will only repair it if I pay them $1000. (this laptop is less than $499 brand new.) what kind of scam are they pulling here?

you can ask for pic s of the liquid damage so you can see what they are talking about

I'll ask for pics but in certain there is no liquid damage. And a $950 repair fee for a $450 laptop is just insane. I should file a consumer complaint.

Thank you for the response serge. I've gone ahead an im'ed you all the relevant info. I'm glad you think it's also ridiculous that I'm being charged two times the cost of the laptop, brand new, for unknown repairs. It's nothing but a scam.

Hello. I've gotten several calls from the hold center saying they will return the laptop to me unprepared as they haven't heard anything from Lenovo service. I did receive an email from customer complaints department however my calls and emails have been unreturned after several attempts.

My laptop was eventually repaired but I just noticed today I'm missing 2gb of memory. I installed 2gb in addition to the 4gb the laptop came with by default. I clarified on the service form that I had 6gb installed. This is disappointing for the amount I paid for repair.
