Re: E420 motherboard problems

2013-06-09, 7:21 AM

after reading this forum, decided to call lenovo up again to discuss my e420's problems. it had finally completely shut down, idk if this happened with you guys but mine turned on usually after a day or two of nothing. this last time it shut off was definitely the big one and my comp didn't turn on again. I only had a 1 year warranty and got the comp in august 2011. Whats annoying is that I had called them a couple of months ago and they told me that since my warranty had expired they couldn't do anything about it (Customer service rep was kinda douchy). However this time they seemed to be more responsive and let me get my comp fixed on a "special case basis". I sent it in on wednesday this last week and it was in their hands by friday, and i'm prolly gonna get it back this week, hopefully fixed and never to happen again. What irked me is that on the phone this time is that the guy who was helping me said that lenovo had figured out that there is a problem with this line of thinkpads, but has not made the effort to inform its customers....(this guy was very helpful, not his fault at all, just lenovo's for making substandard parts for a whole computer line). Why would lenovo not help its customers out and inform them? pretty bad business practice to wait for our warranties to run out and then backtrack and help. Nonetheless, happy i will be getting a functioning thinkpad back.

It sounds like the service for USA is better than Aussie as eventually I had to pointed out some threads of this forum and claimed unfair to get a very unwilling approval for my E420 fixed for free after couple of trials.

This is irritating! i've never had to sent my laptop to fix because of faulty motherboard before! and its been the third time already , except that its returned to me only to be broken AGAIN in the next couple of weeks.

now my warranty has expired and I learned my lesson about the quality of lenovo's replacement support

would not recommend lenovo to my peers

@newuser3,

All repair carries a 3 months warranty regardless of your current warranty status. If your last repair is within 3 months, then you should be okay to get it fixed again.

the problem started about a month ago, I just dealt with it everyday but i finally read through teh entire forum and did as not4us did. Called technical support, was really nice, told them that the computer was out of warranty, they said no i couldnt get it fixed, but then i said an admin on the forum said it would get fixed for free, she talked to her manager and approved it. sending it in now! hope they dont void my warranty bc I installed a SSHD and put the old hard drive in my DVD drive slot.

wahooza,

Let me make sure I understand the situation.  You had the no power symptom and sent in for service and service replaced the system board and sent it back.  And now you say it still will not start?

If this is the case, would you send me a private message with all your info?

Name, address, phone, the serial and type on the bottom of the system, and lastly, the service case #  ?

I'd like to work with you to ensure we get this sorted out.  Apologies!

Thanks for your patience.

Mark
