E460 Keys repeating when pressed for 3 seconds

2016-01-28, 18:50 PM

I just bought the E460 and installed Linux Mint 17.

Now when I press a Key for at least 3 seconds, it's repeating until I press it again, which is really annoying.

If it's a feature: How can I turn it off?

If it's a bug: Is there a workaround or do I have to send it back?

Greetings

edit: Somehow the problem gone away after uninstalling openjdk7 and a few restarts. But I actually doubt that it was corresponding with the jdk...

Re: E460 Keys repeating when pressed for 3 seconds

2016-05-25, 12:10 PM

In response to customer reports that after holding down a letter key for 3+ seconds, the letter will continue to repeat onscreen until the key is pressed again, while pressing arrow keys results in the numbers 2, 4, 6, or 8 being input on E460, E560, and L460 ThinkPads, Lenovo has provided solutions via BIOS upgrade for these systems.

L460 BIOS v1.15 released 5/24/16 can be downloaded here: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/ThinkPad-L-Series-laptops/ThinkPad-L460/downloads/DS112197

E460 and E560 BIOS v1.17 released 4/28/16 can be downloaded here: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/ThinkPad-Edge-laptops/ThinkPad-E560/downloads/DS105367

Thank you,

Ok I finally figured out why it was happening: the repeating delay was too low. When I raised it a bit it just worked fine.

I wrote about my problem in this thread. I thougt I solved it but now I noticed that the keys are repeating uncontrollably only when the power cable is plugged in.

Any suggestions?

I also have this problem. In addition, when I press and hold the right arrow key and release after cca. 2-3 seconds, it's inserting character "6" in text editor. And the left arrow key insert character "4"...

I'm using Windows 10. And because of this problem I'm gonna reinstall the Windows.

Any other ideas?

I have an E560 showing the same behavior running Windows 7.  In various text entry fields and at random times if I hold down the arrow keys under the right Shift key to scroll, I will get either a 4, 6. or 8 dpending on which key I am holding.  Of course those correspond to the arrow keys on the 10 Key pad that have the arrows on them.  Obviously there is a glitch in the keyboard driver.  Anything on this Lenovo?

I have the same problem with my E560 and Archlinux. I just found out that it only exists when plugged in as previously stated. Is there some way to fix it?

I've seen this exact same behaviour once on my E560 in Windows 10. It went away after rebooting and hasn't returned since. I'll update this thread if it returns.

Re: E460 Keys repeating when pressed for 3 seconds

Hi,

I have the same issue. E460, I've tried Windows 10, Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 16.04. If I unplug the power it seems to work as normal (no odd keys getting stuck, slow repeat, repeat getting stuck)

Since it doesn't happen when power isn't plugged in it points to an issue that could be solved with a bios update, I have version 1.12. Could it be an idea to downgrade??
