Re: E460 Keys repeating when pressed for 3 seconds

2016-04-13, 11:47 AM

Lenovo has investigated customer reports that after holding down a letter key for 3+ seconds, the letter will continue to repeat onscreen until the key is pressed again, while pressing arrow keys results in the numbers 2, 4, 6, or 8 being input. Lenovo was able to reproduce this issue on E460, and E560 ThinkPads.

A solution for this repeated keyboard input is being developed. I'll post again when I receive an update.

Thank you,

Hello,

Have the exact same problem and was about to return my new E560.  Actually called Lenovo customer support two weeks ago and the gentleman on the phone said that no one had reported an issue with this and told me to contact Intel and see if it was them.  Very glad to see Lenovo working on this.  That said, I will keep my lenovo in hopes of a great fix.  Since, otherwise I REALLY love this system.

Don't let us down!

@Amy_Lenovo.

I am currently dealing with the issue of the arrow keys inserting numbers with local support in Australia. E460 with Windows 10.

It is exactly as described previously including the fact it only happens on AC power. There must be some conflict between the battery management/charging software and keyboard driver.

As usual different support personnel in Australia have no idea about the issue.

Where can I point local support staff to get internal Lenovo information about this issue?

I work on critical spreadsheet data, and this bug is corrupting my data by replacing values within Microsoft excel spreadsheets without by knowledge which I then accidentally save the spreadsheet and permanently lose important data.

Absolutely unacceptable! I need to return and get a refund for this laptop.

Regards

BB

Dear all,

I have the same issues in my windows 10 and it seems to work better when the laptop is on battery.

When I'm in my linux virtual machine (VMWare), there is no problem at all ! Keyboard works fine, so it's really a problem in the windows drivers and maybe in the lenovo linux drivers.

I hope to get a result very quickly because it's annoying and it's a really bad experience when coding.

Re: E460 Keys repeating when pressed for 3 seconds

Problem description:

When the laptop is on charging (AC power adapter is connected) the keyboard is not working properly.

MS Windows 7:

In various text entry fields and at random times if I hold down the arrow keys under the right SHIFT key to scroll, I will get either a 4, 6, or 8 depending on which key I am holding.

When I'm using SHIFT key in combination with arrow keys for selecting a text after I'm releasing the keys the selection continues further until eventually stops and the text gets unselected (the selection is lost).

Ubuntu:

I used a bootable USB drive and booted the laptop into Ubuntu system - The behavior there is even worse. After holding any key longer than 3 seconds and then release the key, the input will continue not stop until some random key is not pressed to interrupt the previous input. (e.g. pressing key '2' and holding for ~3 seconds and releasing it afterwards will cause repeating the number '2' until is not interrupted by pressing again some key).

Updated the latest BIOS version (1.13) the behavior is till the same.

As soon as the charger is disconnected (the laptop is only on battery) the problem disappears - the keyboard is functioning properly.

To put everything together => This is a hardware issue not a software issue.
