Re: E460 Keys repeating when pressed for 3 seconds

2016-05-02, 18:53 PM

Hi there,

I am not so very firm with IT stuff and not very sure about what to do exactly with the new bios.

When i read the Read me file I do not know which steps are really important to fix my problem.

Basically, I have the same problem as most people here, my E560 keyboard will continue pressing the direction keys when playing games.

Could someone point out which steps I have to follow to install the BIOS update to fix the problem?

My current BIOS version in 1.13

OS is windows 10.

thanks in advance

1) Download both files from the lenovo persons link above.
2) open read me and scroll down to "updating the UEFI BIOS" section.
3) VERY IMPORTANT TO READ "Notes:" and "Attention:" sub-sections.

4) scan briefly the "download" section under "Manual Update" section. you probably aleady downloaded the .exe and read me files from the lenovo persons link.

5) now to update just follow step by step under the section "exstracting the file". There are 15 steps to follow. all are pretty straight forward.

if there is a specific step you are confused about then ask before doing. Make sure to read all 15 before you start and make sure you understand all steps before starting the update.

6) when you are finished, save the WINUPTP.log file created at the same directory of the .exe bios file, could be in the same folder that was created when the file extracted itself. This can be useful if there were problems.
you can then delete the .exe and the extracted update files.

7) If you, for some reason, have a weird issue after the update than follw the next section call "INITIALIZING UEFI BIOS". you most likely will not have to concern yourself with anythingelse in the read me file you downloaded from the lenovo persons link above.

Thanks a lot for helping.

One question remains though,

What is meant by 'remove the power on password (...) in the remote deployment environments'.

Is that just my usual password on the start up screen which I need to disable?

Or, since I don't know what it is, am I not using a power on password?

Bests

The power on password is turned off by default. You set the password in the BIOS and from then on you have to enter that each boot/reboot before the computer will let your windows 10 OS start and ask for your regular user password.

If you only enter your windows password then you don't have it enabled.

I am laid up away from laptop for a couple weeks so I can't give details of changing the setting myself. If you want to look into it. Download the user guide at this link

https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/e560_e565_ug_en.pdf

And check out chapter 5.

Reason for doing this is that the update program needs unhindered access to the bios and likely will reboot your computer automatically during the update.

I myself use the bootable CD to update my bios rather than the utility Amy linked. She did that cuz the utility is suppose to be easier for regular users.

So during the update using bootable disk, the machine reboots itself as part of the update. I'm guessing the utility needs to reboot ad well. Hence the turning off of password.

It wouldn't hurt to disable your windows password temporarily as well.

You're welcome.

I hope you waited to make the decision about the power on PW until after you read my last post.

Because when it comes to updating the motherboards firmware (BIOS) you can render your machine dead if a mistake is made. So always understand steps first on BIOS updates.

I was guessing you didn't enable it, but one never knows. So I wanted you to know first just in case.

Anyhow, grats your update went smoothly. W oO t!

I was aware of what could happen if .25 % had occured ;)

Re: E460 Keys repeating when pressed for 3 seconds

2016-05-04, 13:35 PM

Lenovo has investigated customer reports that after holding down a letter key for 3+ seconds, the letter will continue to repeat onscreen until the key is pressed again, while pressing arrow keys results in the numbers 2, 4, 6, or 8 being input. Lenovo was able to reproduce this issue on E460, E560, and L460 ThinkPads.

While a BIOS fix has already been released for the E460 and E560 ThinkPads, the BIOS fix for the L460 is still pending. It is scheduled to be published at the end of May.

I will provide another update when the BIOS is released.

Thank you,
