Where is bios update? I can not see any update via think vantage system update utility...

Good day.

The BIOS update for the E460/E560 can be found here:

Bootable CD: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/ThinkPad-Edge-laptops/ThinkPad-E460/downloads/DS105369

Windows executable: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/ThinkPad-Edge-laptops/ThinkPad-E460/downloads/DS105367

For some background on why System Update (or Companion) may not yet be showing the package, please see: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-S-Series-ThinkPad-Yoga/TPY-260-Lenovo-Companion-not-getting-updates/m-p/3307705#M13750

Hope this helps a bit.

Regards.

Re: E460 Keys repeating when pressed for 3 seconds

2016-05-06, 22:40 PM

I have been liaising with Lenovo support in Australia regarding this problem on my E460.

I'd just like to comment on the frustrating experience.

I came upon this forum discussion which obviously outlines the issue exactly.

Lenovo Australia technical support didn't seem to be aware of the issue. The phone support technician instead gave me generic workarounds eg make sure keyboard settings on windows is this, repair windows installation etc.

The support technician did not have a direct email so the simple act of emailing them the link to this discussion was almost impossible. Instead I had to send it to a generic support email. Who knows if they received it?

Through multiple phone calls, I implored them to "simply read the Lenovo Support discussion thread". They still didn't get it.

Eventually they asked for my laptop to be sent in. At that stage the updated BIOS was not available.

I did everything to point out the issue when sending in my laptop including:

1. sending a one page letter explaining the problem in detail with my laptop.

2. providing links to youtube videos I had uploaded of the desktop screen displaying the issue.

3. providing links to this forum discussion including specific mention of the BIOS update mentioned by "Amy Tupper" (US Lenovo Support).

Three business days after collecting my laptop I received it back saying all drivers updated, windows image refreshed, computer tested and working to specifications.

The BIOS was unchanged still 1.13, the problem still present.

What a COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME.

By that stage BIOS 1.17 was available and I downloaded it and fixed the issue myself. Many thanks to Amy Tupper.

Australia Lenovo Technical Support, you have been useless.

Why can't there be some central integration of support. Instead the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing and no amount of urging can get Australia and US support to talk to each other.

Thx for reply. This problem was fixed thx a lot.

BUT you still need to fix problem with 460 about thermal managment. Laptop is very often blowing ICE COLD air out of vent hole and FANS are spinning for NO REASON AT ALL! This is incredible annoying and there is NO reason to cool down unloaded CPU and GPU....

I did a few Google searches on your fan topic using Google's 'site:' operator for lenovo.com and came up empty.

Is there already a thread started for it? Bro?

Maybe they need somebody to supply specific test results? Have you already started monitoring temperatures through both means, such as physical and software?

If you could monitor CPU usage and keep an eye on both temps(air port) and software it may be helpful.

When I finally get back to my PC I will look and see what mine is doing(at least another week). I have an infrared heat gun I can use to monitor physical temp of air exhaust port. Combine that with what the firmware is reading.

Curious...?

Does the fan still spin up if you leave PC at idle while in the BIOS. That would take away from the possibility of there being any kind of accuracy issue in a piece of 3rd party hardware monitoring software. But I wonder, is the temp and desired fan speed show in the BIOS? Most BIOS I see show that stuff.

 P.s.

If there is an issue with the fan I'm sure it would be to Lenovo's benefit to develop a fix, as such a fix would seriously increase battery life.

Re: E460 Keys repeating when pressed for 3 seconds

I was still not able to install the update. I created a bootable disk using xfburn. After a restart, the Laptop bootet from disk into the bios update menu. I started the update, but after some seconds it seemed like the Laptop was not doing anything at all. It stayed like that for 4(!) hours. Then I restartet the Laptop and everything was just like before. It seems like the Laptop reads the files from disk but the actual bios update never starts. I'm running Linux and I don't want to install Windows just to install this update.. Can someone please help me?

Have you tried the official boot disk?

Weird.

Could you verify your bios download with the hash

SHA-256: 7c7e330864c1f36ddf050568e284aafcb0d113e883a5ff10aa21cf4fcd9574ee

It may also be possible that the disk didn't burn correctly. Possibly a bad disk.

Did you try a second disk?

Aside from that, good luck. I will be doing mine in about a week. I'll be using the bootable disk as well. I will post my results and steps if needed.

Thanks for the flash Lenovo. Problem fixed.

I used the bootable cd.
1) burnt image to disc.
2) set bios to boot from usb optical drive
3) reboot/run update/reboot
4) done.

@rschr, still having an issue?

Re: E460 Keys repeating when pressed for 3 seconds

2016-05-25, 12:10 PM

In response to customer reports that after holding down a letter key for 3+ seconds, the letter will continue to repeat onscreen until the key is pressed again, while pressing arrow keys results in the numbers 2, 4, 6, or 8 being input on E460, E560, and L460 ThinkPads, Lenovo has provided solutions via BIOS upgrade for these systems.

L460 BIOS v1.15 released 5/24/16 can be downloaded here: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/ThinkPad-L-Series-laptops/ThinkPad-L460/downloads/DS112197

E460 and E560 BIOS v1.17 released 4/28/16 can be downloaded here: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/ThinkPad-Edge-laptops/ThinkPad-E560/downloads/DS105367

Thank you,
