Re: E530 - pulsing/whiny fan @ no/low load

2013-07-09, 22:49 PM

Mark, there are three e430 laptops of my friends and mine.

All on the same BIOS version - 2.52. All has the same problem.

It's very easy to replicate symptoms.

Here is instruction:

1. Turn on laptop.

2. Press F1 to enter BIOS (For the clean experiment – to make sure that there is no heavy load on CPU).

3. That’s it. The fan starts to work. And it NEVER stops. No load, low temp – doesn’t metter. It doesn’t stop.

The problem is: on low load and low CPU temp fan must stop

I'm sorry Mark but this is getting really pathetic.

Over a year ago you were looking for a machine that was affected by pulsing fan issue. There was a lad that wanted to sent his E530 to you straight away. Well guess what - you ignored his help.

Year later you poped out saying "We have a fix". Great! Well not really... We have a new issue. Please face the fact that ALL them machines affected by pulsing fan are now affected by the new issue. And stop pretending that you cannot replicate it. If you managed to get a laptop with pulsing fan, just use that very same machine to get the current issue solved.

Mark, also you promised to get back to me with some details regarding ACPI control and it's description table.. I'm still waiting for your answer.. Is it so difficult to keep us posted? Are you doing something about it, do you plan to fix it? Please respond..

I have an E535 but I tried out something:

A fresh installation (Win7 in this case) but I turned off the optional updates in the very beginning. Installed all drivers except of the Lenovo power management or energy stuff or whatever (Lenovo PM Service) and hide the update in the optional updates. The fan at least stopped pulsing in 99% of cases. When it does pulse then just for some seconds. If anybody is here who wants to make a fresh installation of windows, please try it out and tell us if it also helped you or not.

thats really hilarious.. since a year they're unable to fix it ;D

why dont u make it ACPI compatible and allow controlling the fan through the userspace? i mean at least through your own fan controlling program.....

whoever decided to not comply with the ACPI standard in the first place should be immediately fired :)

(it took approx 1 year to "fix" the pulsating fan issue... / better said: to relocate it to a different issue)

Guess what you find first when browsing the internet for reviews / problems regarding the lenovo e series?  -  Well done lenovo

Thats right, I didn't read the whole thread, because 800 posts are just too many. No problem should exist after such a huge amount of posts.

But how is it possible that I have the pulsing problem not that often than before the installation?

Well, we have passed the 1 yr mark since this issue was brought up to Lenovo, and they have done absolutley nothing to fix it.  Mine still has this issue after trying multiple fresh installs with different configurations of Lenovo software.  The fan is either pulsating, or not working at all.  My Edge 530 is either running cool with way to much fan noise, or burning hot with none.  I'm getting rid of it, and buying a Dell or HP.  I'm done with this Lenovo garbage.

Mark_Lenovo, can you update for us information about how exactly our problem is being solved by Lenovo engineers?

Your last answer was exactly week ago.

P.S. Just in case there is instruction for reproduction of bug on bios 2.52:

1. Turn on laptop.

2. Press F1 to enter BIOS

For the clean experiment – to make sure that there is no heavy load on CPU).

3. That’s it. The fan starts to work. And it NEVER stops. No load, low temp – doesn’t metter. It doesn’t stop.

The problem is: on low load and low CPU temp fan must stop
