E540 Touchpad only registeres right click, cannot left click

2014-08-24, 0:48 AM

Hello community,

I've recently purchases a Lenovo ThinkPad Edge 540 and it worked just fine untill earlyer today (bought it around mid June).
While i was browsing the internet, some how my touchpad developed a problem.
It only registeres right click where ever i click.

I've deleted the drivers, even tho they were the knewest ones, downloaded a fresh .exe and installed it after the reset and what not and it still has the same problem.

If i turn off the touchpad in the ultranav software and enable only trackapad, the buttons work like they should, the large area in the touchpad registeres as the left click and the small area in the top right is registered as the right click. Tho i can't use the touchpad for navigation.

So clicking doesn't works, well neither does tapping. I can doubletap normaly, but i cannot tap and drag such as selecting a block of text.

Again, i've already tried a fresh install of ultranav drivers and it didn't work. The problem manifested itself during normal browsing, nothing was installed nor changed hardware vise. It litteraly changed in a second.

It's a really strange problem and i have no idea how to solve it since the driver reinstall didn't work.

I appreciate any help, thanks.

Great news, glad you sorted it out.

FOR ANYONE HAVING THIS PROBLEM:

1. Uninstall your UltraNav drivers;

2. Restart your lap top;

3. Let Windows find and install generic touchpad drivers;

4. Download official UltraNav driver from lenovo support page and install them;

Hey canterp,

After turning off my lap top for aprox 12 hours or so, my problem went away. I can now use my touchpad as intended, 90% of the touchpads surface is left click and the 10% in the bottom right corner is right click.

It didn't reappear in the last 8 or 9 days so it seems it was just a temporary screw up by either over exhausted hardware or some kind of a software problem, can't really know since i'm not able to reproduce the failiure.

Good luck in finding a sollution :)

For the past week, I have been having similar problems, but they are intermittent:

1) 1 finger click becomes right click (not left), 2 finger click becomes middle (not right), and 3 finger click becomes left (not middle)

2) two finger scroll stops working

3) the touchpad doesn't register any movement, only clicks (but the red stick still works)

These problems come and go within a single session. Restarting doesn't help. I've made sure I have the most recent drivers, I've also uninstalled and reinstalled them. All to no avail.

Pretty much the same problems i had. Excuse my poor description though.

Might be worth checking out the UltraNav software when your touchpad stops registering movement (hit the Windows button and just type in Lenovo, should be 2nd or 3rd in the search results). If i remember correctly there is an option that disables the touchpad's movement (clicks and taps are still possible) in favour of TrackPad (the red thing).

Also, is tapping working as it should? I remember i couldn't double tap, drag and drop icons etc.
If you determine the cause of the problem, please post back so we can make some universal tips for solving this issue.

I sometime overuse my lap top, 12, 15, 20+ hours a day so i guess it's most likely a hardware issue since the 12 hours of off time fixed it.

I ended up solving my problem from above. 1) I attached a usb mouse (so I could still navigate after step 2) 2) Then i uninstalled all the drivers for the touchpad through the system device manager 3) Then I reinstalled all the drivers 4) that didn't work, so I repeated it all a second time, and that did the trick. I've been problem free now for weeks. Don't know why it worked the second time. Good luck everybody.

Try uninstalling the drivers completely using your mouse, reset your lap top and let Windows home in on stock drivers. When you get the generic drivers, download UltraNav from the support page and install it.

Hit me up on this thread if this helps you or if you find any other fix. I'll gladly change the "sollution" since mine kinda sucks for everyone else having the problem due to it being resolved on it's own.

Best of luck mate
