I have also been experiencing this issue on the Z61t so I don't think it's necessarily hardware (though could be for some individuals).  Here are my details:

OS: Windows XP 5.1.2600 SP 3

Memory: 3GB

ThinkPad Power Management Driver version 1.53

ThinkPad Power Manager version 1.62a

Presentation Director version 4.07

crkey - I'd suggest posting in the Z Series forum. While the two issues may be similar, you're on a platform that is several generations behind on a wholly different operating system. I wouldn't want your issue to get lost in this Edge + Win7 discussion.

Re: Display Powers Off Randomly

Good afternoon,

I seem to be having a similar problem. The display powers off, and the computer goes into a sleep/hibernate mode. I have adjusted all appropriate settings in Windows 7 so that this should not happen. Pressing the power button will almost always wake the computer. However it will go back into this mode at random intervals, sometimes after 45 seconds, sometimes 10-15 minutes.  The problem occurs most frequently when doing internet browsing (both IE and Firefox). The only applications that have been added to the system are Office 2010, ITunes, and Norton anti-virus. While I could do a full system restore, I would prefer not to do so if I this is not the only solution. Below is the computer info.

14"

Intel Core i3 2.13GHz

3GB

Windows 7 64bit

Graphics Driver Version 8.15.20.2125

Hi all -

I have the same problem with my new Edge 0301-DCU.

Windows 7 Pro

Factory install of OS.

I don't think this is hardware - it is some glitch in either the Lenovo Power Manager 3 or the Windows hibernation settings.  It seems that when performing long sessions with a single application (browser - or I've found problems with Windows Terminal Sessions) the system doesn't think you are working and goes into hibernation.

I've never had to reboot - Windows resumes after hitting the power button.

It does seem to happen with the brick plugged in - I haven't noticed it working on battery only - which narrows down the problem to the plugged in settings (if true).

Update - it just did it on battery power. Any update on this Lenovo - it's been several months.

Hi Mobocracy,

Have you done the TVSU and Windows update for your system?

I have the same problem.  The problem seems to be in a Hall Effect switch ( a magnetic sensor in the display lid) that tells the screen to power off if the lid is closed. If you have powermanagement set to sleep on lid close, the computer will also sleep.  I turned this function off, now the screen just goes blank.  It's still unnacceptable.  I suspect it's a bad switch or a faulty connection in the cable because it does it when I hit a key.

@jimtristate,

Could you try uninstalling Power Manager and see if the problem still persist since you mentioned that this could be caused by the lid sensor.

I'll try that, but I didn't realize you could uninstall it. Is it a windows component, or a lenovo supplied component.
