Edge 14 Screen Blacks Out?!

2010-04-16, 6:25 AM

I've just started to use Edge 14 (0578-26U). When I unplug the power code, the screen blacks out, like 0.x second.  Is this normal?  I've used R50/T43/T61 up to now, but never encountered this type of screen blackout/flicker.

Other than that, I'm pretty happy with Edge 14 so far.

Could be if you have an aggressive power setting that is dramatically altering the GPU performance. Try setting everything to max performance and see if you still have the problem.

Thank you for advise.

But it's even worse. With the maximum performance setting, now it's about a second of black out.

Could this be a product defect?  I started doubting this only happens to my Edge 14.

Making me so depressed...

Its seems to be some Windows setting I guess , I got the same problem in Dell Inspiron 1464 which I returned in a few days , cuz it was freezing and getting hot too quick. Also every time I pull/plug the pwer cord it had the same blackening thing....

The same blackening thing I am seeing with my new thinkpad...I love my thinkpad dont wanna return this one too..

Mysterious thing happened...

I tried dozens of combinations in the power manager. One setting and another...

Somehow, the annoying black-out screen is now gone, although I'm not quite sure what element of setting was affecting.

For your information, since my last post, more than 15 windows update were done.  Maybe some of them improved system stability?  I don't know.

Another information is:

I called Lenovo technical support in GA, and the technician told me the screen power supply of the Edge 14 is designed to have "black-outs" when A/C plug in and out.  ?????  If this is true, Lenovo should announce this issue, shouldn't they?

Since my Edge 14 never never has this issue now, I hope this information was some kind of mistake, I guess.

Its always good to have a geeky wife...She finally resolved the screen blackening bug in my thinkpad and I would like to share it with you guys.

There seems to be a bug in Thinkpad 14 , the Screen Refresh rate on battery is set to 60 Hz.

Right Click On Desktop -> Graphic Properties

Set the Screen refresh rate to 50 Hz. and the problem will go off.

Thanks,

Vineet

Edge 14 Screen issue

2010-08-28, 8:56 AM

my thinkpad edge 14 screen is having some issue.

it randomly gets dim and the color contrast starts to become dull.

It almost looks like the color depth is going from 32bit to 16bit.

Does anyone have any issue like this?

I recently attended the IDF Intel Developers Forum in San Francisco. I asked the representative at the Lenovo booth about this problem. He suggested that I update my BIOS, which I did. However, today the problem persists. I checked my graphics properties setting, it is alread set to 50hz.

I guess I have no choice but to return my new laptop. What a pain.
